Spam Victory

There seems to have been a major victory in the spam war recently:

"The closure of a web hosting firm that is believed to have had spam gangs as clients has led to a drastic reduction in junk mail.

Two US internet service providers have pulled the plug on the firm McColo following an investigation by the Washington Post newspaper.

Anti-spam firm Ironport has seen junk mail levels drop by 70% since McColo was taken offline on 11 November."

I was intrigued by this, so I checked the spam filter on my main email account. The system has been wonky for a while and doesn't report good emails properly, but the spam count has always remained accurate. Take a look at this results and note the dropoff at 11/11:

My spam went from 500+ daily to 140, which is nice. I think it'll go back up soonish tho unless the people behind it are brought to justice.

Interestingly enough, starting from the 11th, my other forum is being hit hourly by spam bots.

I don't think the respite will be too long because most spammers, I would presume, would have backup hosts ready just in case something like this happened. I think the other ISPs should take note and repeat this in the future for any other ISP who harbors all of these spammers.

Since this has happened, all my spam has ceased. I still get some in my spam inbox, but the actual spam that gets through the filter has dropped from 6+ per day to 0.

Same here. All of the spam that was flooding daily into my old hotmail account has stopped. It won't be long before they get new hosting sorted out however...
