Default What are you doing here!?

    Hey guys & Gals!

Apologies for the rather bland title but I've got curiosity nipping at my brain, and I had no idea how to phrase this so here you go! I am pretty bored right now and I thought it would be interesting to see what my fellow .orgahs had to say on this topic, don't worry, there won't be many questions and they are very easy. Just a little about you! They are totally optional of course and just for fun.

As for plopping this down in the Frontroom, well I could think of no better place. Hope it's the right one.

    1. What Total War game did you play first?

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

    4. What made you stay?

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

Here's mine to get the ball rolling.

    1. What Total War game did you play first?

A: Shogun. I'm one of the "old guys" you could say, been a follower of the franchise since day one. I never played it online though, I loved the campaign way too much. Sure the diplomacy was linear and the graphics weren't taht great, but the AI was challenging and conquering Japan wasn't easy. I still dread trying to take a river from the Shogun AI.

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

A: Despite my love for Shogun, i spent far more time in Medieval:TW than I did the original. It was also what sparked my creative interest as far as writing goes. So I guess you could say MTW served as my very first muse. For that, it'll always hold a place in my blackened heart.

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

A: I can't remember specifically. I googled Total war and the .org caught my eye one day. I checked out the forums, lurked a lot, finally got up the courage to join. Seemed like a nice place.

    4. What made you stay here?

A: The community was second to none. Really! And I'm not just saying that because Tosa has his finger on a button that will send armed men after me if I provide a dissenting voice... The .Org was probably the nicest place on the net i'd seen, everyone was pretty helpful and pretty much any problem I had with the game could be solved by browsing the forum.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

A: Not currently no. Up until recently I was playing M2 with SS 6.1 installed, but I uninstalled it because I just didn't have time to play and needed the hard drive space. M2 may not be the masterpiece of Shogun, but it is still pretty fun. I was skeptical about Empire, but after reading the numerous reviews I dare say I'm getting excited about it!

    1. What Total War game did you play first?
Medieval: Total War. A friend had it in his backlog pile of unplayed games, I installed it on one of his machines, was hooked, and bought my own copy the next day.

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?
    MTW.

    3. What brought you to the .Org?
A google search led me to Frogbeastegg's MTW guide. I lurked a little, but didn't actually join until Rome came out.

    4. What made you stay?
Good insight and game knowledge, and the whole board is run well, with very little of the usual internet "issues".

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.
I still play MTW. It's still enjoyable and challenging, and I prefer substance to eye candy. I've given up on Rome, and Medieval 2 has the same tedium of the campaign map.

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

A: same as Drone, googling guides for MTW brought be to Lady Froggy and her MTW masterpiece.

    4. What made you stay here?

    The folks, of course.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

A: I still play MTW a fair amount. I've been fiddling around with M2, but it just doesn't have the magic that the first had. MTW, in my opinion, is an utterly classic game.

the impending release of M2:TW, and the members obviously. KotR was a big factor too.

Very rarely I play a bit of M2, it just seems boring now, for me it doesn't stand up to EU3 at all. And I'm far too busy studying for my A levels.

    1. What Total War game did you play first?

MTW. A roommate had put his copy on the house computer.

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

Probably MTW. More choices than STW (but where's the geishas?), but still with the feel of a boardgame. I miss the sound effect you get when you put a piece down on the map and the random starting strengths (such as acumen... *restart* come on 4... what, 2? *restart* come on 4... what 5!!!! YEE-YA! Good governor.) of your military.

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

I first looked at this site when trying to figure out how to play MTW with out a book.

    4. What made you stay?

At first, when just reading the info, it was very helpful. Then, it gave me an outlet while studying in Austria (so cold). Agan, after MTW2 came out, everyone was very helpful. Currently, the mafia games.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

Not really. My VI disk was cracked during my last move, I lost STW, and I can never seem to get past the first few turns now of MTW2.

    1. What Total War game did you play first?

Rome. Saw it installed in one of my local library's computers while I was supposed to be working. I double-clicked the icon instead, played the tutorial, and I was hooked. Sadly, my machine couldn't handle it until a while later, so I was stuck playing it at the library when I should have been working. It started a great trend for me.

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

Having only played Rome and Medieval 2 (I know, blasphemy), I have to say Rome in a flash.

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

Wiki, actually. It was an external link, labeled something like "a very prominent fansite for Rome and the Total War series". Clicked it, saw not only Froggy's guides but the other posters interacting on such a cordial level as well. I was in.

    4. What made you stay?

The politeness/good etiquette of all the posters, and eventually, as I moved out of the TW zone, the people in the Frontroom and the Throne Room (and later, the Gameroom).

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

Occasionally. Sometimes I do it as part of a Throne Room project and I still load up Rome when I have free time and feel like campaigning. I never do Medieval 2 or Kingdoms unless it's part of a PBM, however.

My reply ought to be Monk's post with the word "ditto" appended, but that would be lazy.

    1. What Total War game did you play first?

Shogun. I loved every second of it, even more when the Mongol expansion arrived, as I was very interested in the Mongol history. The battle map was such an innovation for me, and with variable landscapes of challenge and endless interest - it was just great! I can still hear in my mind, that immortal accented voice - "the enemy general is running like a whipped dog!"

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

Without doubt, MTW. Almost the perfect game - challenging, fascinating and endlessly replayable. VikingHorde's XL mod has given me even more hours of enjoyment.

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

As with others, googling for the solution to a knotty problem.

    4. What made you stay?

The community, particularly in the Main Hall, where members like Martok and Caravel made me so welcome, and sat with kindness through my seemingly endless AAR. Finally, an audience too polite to tell me to shut up! Then of course, the Dark Voices called me to the Backroom...

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

Yes, but nowhere near as much as before. I am trying M2TW again, having given up after buying it on release. The interface of RTW and M2TW just doesn't do it for me (why is it so fuzzy?) and whilst the graphics for battles are wonderful, the strategy map somehow doesn't click for me. But I am trying a full campaign over the Christmas period, when I get a little more time for myself.

    1. What Total War game did you play first?

    Shogun!

What a game, loved the battles with the huge amounts of men and the real tactics involved, and the risk style stratergy bit was really good as well, it was the multliplayer that really hooked me though, huge team tactics in 4v4 style battles, where with just good teamwork you could take people off the steepest of hills..

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

    Shogun!

The multiplayer was really immense, the multiplayer was good in medieval as well, but it never reach stw levels for me, the single player game was better, i think the battles lost a little something in single player though..

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

Part of the clan i joined online, my leader wanted to join the forums because this is where the multiplayer community was

    4. What made you stay?

Mainly the backroom, its a lot nicer than most other forums and i have just been here so long it feels homely

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

I just reinstalled medieval and have been given axalon's redux mod a go, before my laptop died i had rtw installed with EB newly installed, i will probably get that back once i get a new computer... the battles just aren't quite as good in rtw, though the straergy bit is a lot more enjoyable, its why i swing between rtw and mtw

Rome Total War first after it was released

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

I've only really played two: RTW and M2TW, but I would say RTW definately (Armenia FTW!)

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

Well, I think it may be somehow related to reading a guide regarding RTW made by frogbeastegg and then following links and such, but I can't really remember....

    4. What made you stay?

I would definitely say that this is one of the most mature forums I've seen out there and the staff does a great job. The simple presence of the backroom is a testament to this.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

Not really. I played M2TW for quite a while after it came out, but I never got the expansion and eventually lost interest. I probably will eventually get and play ETW, but will most likely be a few months after it is released.

Shoggy, what a masterpiece! I too am one of the old timers, I played multi-player for about six months solid and lost every single game. Then one day I played against the creator of the Insane clan and he asked me to join. Prophecy was his name. I never looked back after that. Played some glorious battles and made some good mates.

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

Shogun. After the patch to 'fix' the muskets it was exquisitley balanced, especially for multi-player.

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

As Daimyo of The Souls of Insanity (our official name) I was very kindly invited to join. I grew to love it here and havn't looked back.

Oh yes I still play. MTW2 most of the time these days. In fact last night for the first time I got the explorer thingy so that I can invade America, not just that little bit in the Caribbean .

Shogun. (I still remember being completely wowed by the very first teaser trailer for it!)

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

I suppose I'd have to say MTW, since that's the one I've played the most. Shogun comes in a very close second, however.

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

I honestly don't remember. I think I more or less stumbled across it one day when I was searching for more information on Shogun (which hadn't yet been released at the time).

    4. What made you stay?

The people, of course! I would be hard-pressed to find a community that's as both friendly and knowledgeable as this one.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

I play both MTW and STW (although the former more so than the latter). They're both classics, and with my love of both history and strategy games, it's like trying to escape a black hole. Sooner or later, it sucks me back in....

    1. What Total War game did you play first?

MTW. I was introduced to it by a couple of my friends. I was used to spamming huge armies on the AoE scenario editor at the time, and I never knew games such as TW existed.

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

Its hard to say. I was too young/noobish to do justice to MTW when I played it. I had a go at STW a few years ago and enjoyed it. Rome somehow has sentimental value for me, since it was the first TW game I really got into playing hours on end. But on the whole, I'm going to be different and say M2TW is my favourite. Not in its original form, where campaigns were easy and repetetive. But the immersion and diveristy of the Kingdoms campaigns was mind-boggling. I've only ever played one mod, EB. It was good, but I can't take it when the game crashes (OCD OCD!!!).

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

I was just bored one day and browsed some TW stuff on the net. I was amazed to find forums such as these existed.

    4. What made you stay?

At first, modding. I just presumed you couldn't edit published games. After years of thiking up mods that never/barely got started, I finally persevered around this time last year and made my Mali faction mod. But that was really just a practice for the real one. Click my sig to see more! Apart from the modding, I like the discussion in the Backroom, and just passing time in the Frontroom or wherever if I'm writing an essay and feel like taking a little break.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

I was playing RTW until recently, having played through nearly every faction in M2TW/Kingdoms. My last campaign was as Carthage. Now, I'm too busy modding to play much, but once Empire comes out...

Such modesty, Haru-I mean, BG. Your Cuman campaign was exquisite, and remains one of the finest examples of an AAR I've ever seen -- which given some of the campaign stories we've had, is no small feat.

    1. What Total War game did you play first?

Bought Shogun on budget in the summer of 2004, bought MTW a few weeks later, been hooked ever since.

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?

I wouldn't say I have a clear favourite; I've probably spent roughly equal amounts of time on each of Medieval, Rome, and Medieval 2. All three have unique qualities I enjoy, and all three have aspects which annoy me.

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

I think I came across the Org while looking for modding information for RTW. Initially I was reluctant since I usually find forums to be pretty unrewarding places to plough through for information, but I found the Org had a much higher signal-to-noise ratio than is normal for forums. Eventually after about a year of ever-more-frequent lurking I signed up.

    4. What made you stay?

See above about signal-to-noise ratio. Somehow the Org manages to toe the line between being having a close-knit and committed core membership without being cliquey and off putting for newcomers, and between being large enough to be vibrant and dynamic without being so large that learning to recognise and get to know a significant fraction of the membership is impossible.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

I mostly play M2TW with the Stainless Steel 6.1 or Broken Crescent mods, though I do boot up Rome and the original Medieval from time to time. I am cautiously optimistic about ETW, I think on a basic level a Total War game based around things that go boom would be a nice change from guys in tin cans with swords, but I worry the game is overambitious and could fall flat.

    4. What made you stay?
econ21. pretty much. Then I discovered they have mafia! Too bad I don't play that anymore.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.
Yes and no. I have Rome installed, but I dont often play it. Why not? I play a lot of Warcraft 3 online, with friends. Games are always more enjoyable when shared with friends.

Default AW: What are you doing here!?

    1. What Total War game did you play first?
I started off with Shogun TW

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?
    Shogun TW, and MTW:Viking Invasion

    3. What brought you to the .Org?
I saw this site and the .com and like the sword dojo's layout

    4. What made you stay?
I like the community here. Not as juvenile as most gaming forums, due in part to the series' genre as well as moderators keeping us all in line.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.
I revisit all of the games from time to time. Was playing STW just a few weeks ago as the Imagawa clan. I stil think that STW had the best AI and best selection of units. I like the atmosphere of the game. STW and VTW are also the only series in which total conquest is actually feasible thereby allowing me to pursue it without getting angry. I've only not bought the Kingdoms expansion to MTW2, I was disappointed with MTW2 so I didn't expect much from it's expansion. Probably won't get Empires unless the reviews of it in January are still pretty good, I'm tired of the ever more arcade like atmosphere of each TW installment. I still haven't forgiven the devs for the head throwers and screeching women of RTW or the cannon elephants of MTW2, that and they took my dates away!

Stage one we say nothing is going to happen.
Stage two, we say something may be about to happen, but we should do nothing about it.
Stage three, we say that maybe we should do something about it, but there's nothing we can do.
Stage four, we say maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now.

Rome: Total War and M2TW were the only two I played. I think RTW kept my attention longer especially with the Rome: Total Realism mod

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

I got sick of the Rome: Total War.com forum and searched for another. This is the only one I still frequent.

    4. What made you stay?

The people and discussion here is a LOT better than any other Total War series forum. Hell I don't even play the game anymore and I still come on here (though I've had breaks).

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

No, I really don't play too much of any video game at the moment. Focus is elsewhere, but I don't think I've grown out of video games quite yet...
    And there you have it.

People are wrong in the backroom. People need advice in the frontroom.

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.
I do not. My MTW and RTW cds do nothing but collect dust in my house. Come to think of it all I play is Madden 09 and NCAA 09.
There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

No. I simply have moved on to other games. I bought Medieval II and I was bored with it after an hour. I literallly have not put the DVD in the drive since then.
Rest in Peace TosaInu, the Org will be your legacy

Cool Re: What are you doing here!?

    1. What Total War game did you play first?
Shogun:Total War, I could not beat the campagain, and even now I still can't !

    2. Which TW game was your favorite?
Medieval:Total War, I love STW, but MTW just outbeats it a bit!

    3. What brought you to the .Org?

I started MTW/VI MP on a active basis in Early March 2004, and I started to come here to check out the RTW unit information. Lurked around the forum, but didn't really care much for it then.

    4. What made you stay?
I signed up in Februaby 2006, little after the Chat Lobby incident of Late 2005 when Chat was shut off due to racist remarks. I wanted to take part in the debate here about it, then I started to post in Backroom and Frontroom, and I started to like the place and been here ever since .

    5. Do you still play any Total War Game? Please provide a why or why not.

Yes. I still play VI and RTW and will start playing NTW2. I still like the games, plus am trying to raise up BHC in our glorious return. I will always play TW MP and remain on .Org, no matter how little or how much time I may have .
