What is the difference between happiness and loyalty?

Okay I was looking up buildings with the Gnome editor when I noticed that some buildings had no loyalty bonus but had happiness bonus. What's the difference?

Happiness is a stat for provinces. Loyalty is a stat for generals. In other words, happiness will affect the rebelliousness of your population (rebels and reemergences), while loyalty will determine the rebelliousness of your armies (civil wars).

Buildings do not have a loyaly bonus. The happiness bonus that some buildings (such as the Watch Towers, Inn, Brothel, Town Watch, Church, etc) provide is a happiness bonus. Happiness is provincial "loyalty". It is not the same as generals' loyalty.

Ok thanks, that clears it up. But I have one more question kind of related to this: is there any way to make you have the ability to build more than 1 cathedral in VI? Because in the original MTW you could and I think it's more historically accurate that way.

Hello there Rabcarl and welcome to the Org by the way…

You are entitled to believe whatever you want of course, but let me assure you that any version of MTW has as much to do with the concept of historical accuracy as Mickey-Mouse does essentially (sorry for that, but there you have it. That goes for any version of all Total War games for that matter, feel free to quote me on that btw). At best it is only on a highly symbolical and extremely vague level it has anything to do with that concept (at least in the conventional use of the term). No offense intended here, but I just thought that you (and other enthusiasts) should know that.


Now, as for the cathedrals, you will need a Gnome Editor in order to make that happen and that is available HERE.

The Gnome Editor is pretty much self-explanatory and you get the hang of it fairly fast. What you need to do after you downloaded the Gnome Editor is to open this file (backup it first would be good of course): “crusader_build_prod13.txt”. That file is found in the install folder ”Medieval – Total War”. Now, you need to open up “crusader_build_prod13.txt”-file with the GnomeEditor and then go to row 29, column 4 and you will find this:


"AGENT_PRODUCER, CATHEDRAL_INCOME, UNIQUE"

You must change that to this (exactly):

"AGENT_PRODUCER, CATHEDRAL_INCOME"


After that change you save and then you can build 1 cathedral in each province if you like,
as much as you like. That’s pretty much is it….

Thanks for the help. I agree with you, but I think that MTW does a much better job at being historically accurate than some other games, and that's why I like it. It does a good job at portraying the essence of the Medieal period in Europe, but any game has to be stretched a little bit to make it entertaining and fun.
