Hvil i fred HoreToreA man who casts no shadow has no soul.
I'm already raising my son to be a terrible geek. I bought him some Roman action figures, and told him who they were. You know how little kids are; they can learn things faster than you can speak them.
He freaked out an adult who looked at the toys by saying, "This is a centurion. That's just a legionary. This is Caesar." He's five, mind you.
I am a terrible father.
Actually pedagogically speaking the age between 3 and 8 is the best to start something - this is how these girls become World Class Professional Chess players... Their father Lazlo Polgar made a living experiment out of them in proving that *geniuses are made and not born*. This isnt exactly as it sounds, because Mr Polgar was smart enough to look for the predispositions in his daugters and when he noticed the elder one being interested in chess at an early age he made his house a full chess club (in which RFischer was often invited while in Budapest).Originally posted by Lemur

This has also long been observed in martial arts - the kids of headinstructors that get black belts at 12 can never be reached by other people usually.

Yup, I got him the centurion, the legionary, Caesar and a gladiator. The centurion is the toughest, or so my five-year-old thinks, so he stands guard by the bed while my boy sleeps. He can beat up any monsters. We talked about this.
I live in Wisconsin, but that doesn't mean anything, since I bought the toys off Amazon.

Please do; the boyfriend of a very close friend of mine commited suicide, and she and her best friend are virtually psychological wrecks at this moment (the suicide being about three months ago). People have no idea of what horrible feelings they'll leave to those that they leave behind, even if they are in a state in which they think that know what the consequences of their actions will be. Suicide is a horrible thing and it will leave enormous mental damage to those left behind.i suppose ill give it another week. if its not better after the psychologist sees me then ill think more about it.

Beefy, Beefy, Beefy...I love your writing!
Glad to see you are still here after I go to sleep. You read my PM as well.

I'm glad you didn't do anything rash. I know school and the teenage years can be brutal (I was there not too long ago), but trust me, even though adults may not always show it, things do get better; and there are people out there that care about you.![]()
Right on, bro! I wrote a long story once, and I'll give you some advice: if you happen to come across writer's block, get an energy drink, put on some gym clothes, and go for an insane jog. It always worked for me; by the time I get home, I'd be so exhausted and would fall asleep. The dreams would inspire me into a nice writing session when I wake up.![]()
i have a pretty good idea of what i am writing about. ive already done the first chapter, and am working on the second. i cant post it until next week though, its on my other computer. look up "operation uranus" on wikpedia, and find the one on stalingrad. i kno its not the same name, but i doubt anyone would read a story titled "uranus", and saturn was another stalingrad operation...so....hence the name

Hmm.. a story about Stalingrad?
What is it about? Uranus was a tank operation, so I presume it is about tankers?
Or is it something else entirely?

Names, secret names
But never in my favour
But when all is said and done
It's you I love
uranus was the final push by russian troops to surround the german army in stalingrad. saturn was the tank operation, cutting off german supply line to the south and west. it is about a normal sodier, a rifleman. if i can get on TWC i'll post the first part ASAP and link it here.

Bugger, I should stop mixing them up. :P
I'm looking forwards to it. Stalingrad is one of my favourite battles too.

yah, for some reason i only like western history, but i love russian history as well. they are jsut so cool (also we are part russian)
i love stalingrad and the russian front against germany. its so fascinating and ruthless. its a perfect example that in war there are no "good guys" or "bad guys". there are aggressors, and ther are defenders. sometimes its not even that, its just 2 nations at war.

I really recommend you getting into music, if you aren't already. IMO today's new pop, rap, and hip hop isn't good enough for our new generation to look up to.
I find, that there's nothing more soothing and more relaxing than listening to music. In fact, music is definitely a reason why I would never commit suicide... it could become yours too.![]()

You'd be surprised how decent some of it actually is. For example, I'm also a fan of AC/DC / Metallica (If you like those guys, you'd like Nirvana [Kurt Cobain] or Radiohead). However, rap is just poetry set to a beat; it's just a style of getting a message across. And early rap is all about poverty, racism, civil rights etc. Real struggles that people have to endure in their everyday lives. Of course, a lot of the rap that we come across nowadays is bull:daisy1:, but that's due to commercialisation and capitalism.
I'm 16, and a couple of years ago, I was in a similar situation to you. I felt crap, I thought everybody hated me, I would be a virgin forever etc. But then I realised that if people weren't going to like me because I was skinny/had glasses, then they probably weren't nice people to begin with, and therefore not worth being friends with in the first place. I found my own group of friends, and although I now go to a different school, we sometimes hang out together now, and I'm glad I met them. Two things to remember
1. People generally aren't unfriendly. People like having friends, and although you might have to make the first effort to become friends, it generally isn't that hard to maintain a friendship.
2. You may be being bullied outside of school. Best advice I ever came up with is the fact that the best way I could beat those SOBs was to persevere. To succeed. To make sure that nothing that they could do could stand in my way of achieving what I want to do. Because they will win by making sure you fail. And you can't ever let them do that.
Also, you say your parents have confiscated your xBox. Well, to quote Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life", "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" (Although considering you come from a Jewish family, I doubt you'll get the joke...Ahehehe!). Use that as an excuse to do something with all that free time. Tbh, grades aren't really that relevant at that age. If you've got the skills to do well anyway, you'll get in gear when get older. For example, you could learn a new language, an excellent way to meet new people and learn about new cultures (After spending a week and a bit in Germany, complete with Beertents, I can tell you that girls find the exotic foreigner quite, eh, ravishing
). Or, you could practice a sport, beef up those muscles. Try out loads, you don't have to join the first one you pick. Make sure you go to every session once you've decided you like that one though. If you're tall and skinny, try running, or archery. If you're bigger, try rugby (American Football?).
And about the age you're at, I know exactly how you feel. Most of the people around you are/seem to be w:daisy1:ers, and you feel as if everybody hates you. And when it comes to girls; don't bother at that age. Srsly. Most of them are pretentious, stuck up brats at that age anyway. It takes time for them to realise that being a football player does not necessarily make for a good relationship. And when they do realise, that's when you'll come into the limelight.
Obviously, I'm not a professional psychologist. If you are still thinking of taking your own life, then please contact one of the help lines provided. However, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say and take it in.
Remember, only doubt holds you back from achieving what you should achieve.
