Scipio stands once again,
Friends it seems we are divided on this issue, going to Hispania will require two Legions, any less is madness. That would leave one for peace keeping in Sicily and one for watching for Gallic incursions so putting pressure on the Gauls would not be an option. If we are to attack Hispania it must have our full attention, and we need to remember we are on friendly terms with the Lusotannan tribe. I ask you all then to say yay or nay on whether we go to Hispania.
The hero of the Punic Conflict sits.
Ceaser stands
I say nay, because the Lusotana Confederation will get suspicious and might go to war with us. I say we go to the Dalmatian coast so Anrza can get more greek boys. (senate chuckles) No just so we can stop the piracy and get some mines from there too.
Just rping nothing personal.
I think we all know that any insults in this are only rping and shouldn't be taken personally, I don't think there is a need to mention it every time we insult someone. We aren't mocking the actual forum goer, just his in-game character, if anybody gets offended just insult him more.![]()
Scipio stands to address the Senate, he is well over 60 now and looking his age. Surely he has seen the last of active service in the name of Rome.
Well gentlemen of the Senate, it seems you are split 50/50 on how we should go forward.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I guess if we cannot unite and give the Consuls sound advice on what we wish to achieve we will be at the mercy of their own ambition and greed. We all know where that has gotten us in the past. Cotta in the north has the Gauls in check, perhaps his single Legion will be enough and we have two spare to advance our goals. If anybody has any bright ideas now is the time to let us know, we have no goals, no purpose. We are a nation in limbo, the next few years will see our armies subject to the whims of men with a short period of time to gain fortune and glory. That is something which can lead to reckless actions.
Scipio sits, years of service to Rome obviously having taken their toll on him. Is their anybody with the strength of personality to rise and take the burden of responsibilty off the two veterans of the Punic conflict?

Arnza Stands:
" I don't feel we are divided. Scipio, does your word not influence the desicion? Souldn't he be allowed to vote on this matter? Are you not a Tribune? (OOC honestly not sure) I move that, Scipio, should be allowed to vote on this matter."
Arnza raises his hand and sits. His chest has begun to ache.
Scipio rises wearily
Indeed, Arnza my friend, I have already voted. I could perhaps use my influence and that of Cotta to get my own way, but that would hardly be very Roman now would it? I would be no better than one of those Greek tyrants like Pyrrhos. No, I am an old man now, I have no desire to bend Rome to my will. Only to help the Senate agree. We seem divided down the middle on this unfortunately, we may need to place our fates in the hands of the Gods.

I have a few days off work so hopefully I'll get an update up tomorrow.

"Senators on the dalmatian coast there is nothing more than Greek boys, and i don't like boys like some of you here. But I promise you if you support my idea to attack Iberia and conquer it we can get enough gold so we'll can train an couple of more legions and go east and get the greek boys for Anrza."

The Senate Building, Rome 247 AUC.
Scipio addresses the Senate,
Brothers news from the Legions. Legio I guards our grain supplies in Sicily, Legio II watches our northern borders for barbarian incursions. Legio III has taken the Illyrian city of Segestica, giving us control of the north of Illyria. My son is acting as Legate to the Consul and I have just received a letter from him outlining the assault on the city. The Senator lined his forces for battle in a conventional fashion, Illyrian levies and Sardinian allies manned the battering rams which knocked down the gate and wall on the western side.
Gallic and Italic slingers, joined by the Sardinians when the walls fell, kept a constant hail of missile fire on the defenders which killed one quarter of the enemy. Gallic spearmen were then sent in to gain a foothold in the city, they met with almost the entire enemy force in a small open area and held them there for hours before the Hastati moved in.
The defenders had most of their army on one side of the open area and the Consul thought they had made a mistake and concentrated his forces on the weak half, trying to break through and surround the enemy. The opposing general was no fool however and had kept reserves, just as the enemy were about to break at the weak point they were reinforced and we had to withdraw our exhausted Hastati and bring up the Principes. More heavy fighting followed until we broke through what he had originally felt to be their strong point and surrounded the reinforcements. The Principes wrapped up the enemy and withdrew from the city which still had a small enemy force defending the town square. The Pedites Extraordinarii moved in with our Campanian cavalry and, after brutal fighting, took the city. Our losses amongst our allies were grievous, though few citizens fell and the city is firmly under our control.
The Consul in command of Legio IV has taken his army to Crete, he claims that taking the island will give us an advantage in any war in mainland Greece. I think he wishes to claim a kingdom for himself. Let's see if he returns when his command is up, or will he rebel against Roman authority. I have little information on his movements but I believe he has reached the island and is currently beseiging the main settlement. I am told the Spartan have an interest in the territory and may well have forces there at present, which could lead us into conflict with the Hellenic Alliance. This is not a situation any of us wished for I am sure, and shows what problems can arise when the Senate is not together showing a united will.
If I hear any news on the Cretan situation I will inform you all immediately, good day gentlemen.
Scipio walks out of the building, leaving the Senators to discuss these developments.

Marcus Iulius Rufus stands up
"Every news of victory is good news. But there are more concerning matters to discuss here. Like why has the council taken an army to Crete without our approval. That's what worries me most."

Arnza stands
"I agree. The actions that Legio IV have done are very disconcerting. Whether they mean good or bad, it does no matter, they should be punished fiercly. How was the Legio IV able to do this. Did any one try to stop them? Now to matter of Illyria. Did I not say it was a good idea? We have won a great victory. Roma Invicta"
Don't forget we are using Rome here guys, I did mention that if the Senate couldn't agree on a course of action the Consuls would be left to do as they please with their armies. I used a dice to decide what each Consul would do to simulate their free will. I have tried to play out the assault on Kydonia a few time and keep CTDing so it might be a few days before I update.
Thanks for playing along guys but I'm going to stop this now, there are three interactive AARs going on and all of them are struggling along. The same small group of people are playing all three and it is difficult to keep interest. Hopefully Ghaust and Tanit keep theirs going as they seem more interesting than mine. I haven't been able to get into a real campaign due to this and TSV over in the Throne Room, so I thought stopping this would be for the best. I'm going to go play a Pahlav campaign, I don't think anybody wants to see my fourth Pahlav AAR so I won't be doing an AAR for it (I may finally do that Pahlav reform guide though).

Well, it was fun. Good luck with Pahlav campaign. I had a lot of fun with this. Thanks, and have a balloon for the first thing I ever joined on here![]()
