Great job Andres
well played Ichigo
it was close... we could have won if we got the last lynch correct... anyways well done
Anyone know why me and the ninja master (yaropolk) were forced to commit suicide?
Shingen's last act?

Well that was a lot of fun - frustrating at times, but fun. I think part of the frustration was having no sense of making progress as a townie. Being dead with a role didn't help either.
I was wrong right up to the end - GGKagemushaIchigo!

Also Sassaki - it was my belief that you were actually picking the duels rather than random.org - is tha true?

My team were let down by me a lot... first I forgot to send in a kill, and then I send in the "wrong" battle rating to CA. I thought ratings were more spread out, and so it would be better for me to send the real rating, in case I got challenged or something. Turns out I got it wrong...
We did manage to kill two geishas and one bodyguard, as well as discovering the true Shingen though

I had an idea to take you out on night 3 - I challenge you (battle rating 9) and we kill the other duelers. Would be interesting to see what happens in this case.
I told you it was Ichigo, but no, you never listened to me. We could have won the game! :P
Also, thank you for making it so I am not the one who duelled, Sasaki.
Role PM, since the game is over.
As for being suspicious, being so allows me to stay alive, as it makes me look like a viable lynch target. I said this near the beginning of the game (whoever wants to search for it, can.)Originally Posted by Andres

II. Behind the scenes - mechanics
Takeda
- Takeda Shingen was not Takeda Shingen. CountArach was the shadow warrior or "kagemusha" of the real Takeda Shingen : Sasaki.
- Shingen had some night abilities: 1) each night, he had to pm me one of the duels on the challenge list to be removed from it; 2) each night he had to pm me which bodyguard was going to protect which Takeda brother. Shingen had one unique ability, to be used only once: instead of removing a duel from the list, he could pick one and decide to either have it end in no bloodshed or have both opponents commit seppuku.
- three bodyguards combining protection on one Takeda brother would result in failure of all night actions against them, be it assassination attempts or investigations. Only the geisha could break through the defense and discover the real Takeda Shingen. Down to 2 bodyguards, ninja without master or traitors would have a 25 % succes chance of getting to Shingen, down to 1 bodyguard, 50 % chance. Ninja with master, would have gotten a 10 % bonus.
- first attack by three ninja on a swordmaster, had a 50 % chance of directly killing him; attacks by 2 ninja 33 %, one ninja 25 %. With the help of the ninja master, attacks on bodyguards would always succeed. A failed first attack would result in a severe injury for the bodyguard. A second attack would always result in a kill. Traitors: first attack 33 % succes chance, failed = injury; second attack = always succesful.
- dead of the kagemusha would not have resulted in the real Shingen being revealed. A "masked samurai" would have taken charge of the proceedings during the day.
Traitors.
With only two members, they were underpowered. This unbalance was repaired by allowing the traitors to have 1 additional recruit if they made through N3. This recruit was to be picked from one of the veteran samurai. I randomised that list, the three coming out on top would be possible recruits; I gave them a number from 1 to 3 and had the traitors pick a number. Captain Blackadder was the chosen one. Unfortunately, the traitors didn't last long. I had several power-ups in mind. An increase in killing power with the recruit. They would have gotten an additional kill at N6 (which didn't go through, since Blackadders kill on N5 failed and he got killed himself N6) and some investigation power and also a 50 % immunity against investigations. Alas. The game ended for the traitor team at N6.
At the start, they could either kill two or kill 1 and investigate 2. In retrospect, the traitors were a bit underpowered. In the original concept they weren't included; I put them in to balance things out, since I didn't want to change the setup of 1 ninja master and three ninja. I first thought about adding in two seperate serial killers, but I preferred this, as it seemed more powerful then two serial killers.
Shinobi
A classic detective. Allthough, in order to balance things, the shinobi had a unique ability, a one time opportunity to poison one player of his choice; a kill attempt with a 100 % guaranteed succes rate, no matter who the target was.
Geisha
The classic role blocker+protector, with some "extra's": hairpins that would injure the attacker of their protectee+the ability to get acces to the Takeda brothers no matter how well they were guarded.
Ninja.
The ninja master was basically the godfather, but only it was random.org that picked the henchmen, not the godfather himself. At night, the master could chose to a) investigate 3 players; b) block one player; c) assist his students. Always innocent upon investigation. Dutch had a 50 % immunity.
III. Duels.
The duels were based on Sigurd's duel system. The dice were thrown as in the game Risk. The battleratings represent the number of armies you would have in the boardgame. The attacker throws three dice. Then the defender rolls two. The attacker compares his highest die to the highest of the defender; if the attacker's die is higher, the defender loses one die (point of his battle rating), if it's equal or lower, the attacker loses one. Idem dito for the second highest die of the attacker and the remaining die of the defender. This goes one until one of the fighters has lost all his armies (battle rating points). You gained one point in battlerating if you won against a stronger opponent. No changes for victories agains equal or lesser opponents.

Interesting read. Glad to see my special ability came as a surprise and that the edited pm caused a little confusion.
Had no idea you had me pegged as shingen so early though. By the time I revealed I was sure you knew--all you had to do was add 2 and 2.

When I say take them off that list I meant to say we should leave them live, not killing any of them in the immediete future.

I kept a diary from sign-up phase until the final night. It's (very) long, about 11 pages in Word. It's written from the perspective of a spectator, as the game advanced. I didn't always bother to bold names and such or correct grammar/spelling mistakes but I thought you'd appreciate it if it were posted quickly, so here it is. I hope you enjoy it :

Hah, I loved some of the comments in the diary.
Yeah, sorry Ichigo, I had a gut feeling form you early on, but I struggled to actually build a case against you. I requested BQ to investigate you on his reveal, to hopefully bring some evidence to the information, but he got lynched.

I need to strike lucky and actually be a Mafia-role, look more fun.
Yeah, but my gut feelings on a few people were actually correct, which was amazing. Stephen Assen was a temporary one due to my n00bishness, then when I realised, I stopped it. But for example, TinCow, and a few others which I viewed as innocent actually were. There were some I simply didn't have a clue about as expected.
I love how the Mafia made out me and GeneralHankerchief were working together, amazing thing is, we never said a word to eachother!

I had actually come up with the theory of Sasaki being the real Shingen after night 4, but thought it was best to keep it silent as long as it could hurt the town. That said when Sasaki challenged me a second time I became suspicious that I might have got it all wrong.
Also I must say that Ichigo played on hell of a game. He kept quiet while the town went after each other and it worked bloody well.

Oh snap, I was the only one with the same duel rating as the ninja master and never made use of it!
But that was a nice game Andres and well played ninjas!![]()

Props for figuring it out...I challenged you the 2nd time because I was a bit annoyed you kept dropping clues in the thread like "Sasaki can't have been protected by a special role". Of course, both mafia groups had figured it out and I removed all the duels I was involved in. Go figure...![]()
Husar - I had a really nice writeup all ready to go for you - killer was supposed to sneak in and bash you to death SK style with an old oar you kept on the wall for some reason. A little throwback to Sasaki vs Musashi duel. But alas, traitors got you. I ended up using the laundry pole a few nights later, but nobody caught it.
BTW 18...22...25 were kill #s for the three bodyguards. The plan was to keep town wondering if another pro-town special role is alive.

Heh, sorry 'bout the clues. I think the problem was that I really wasn't sure that my theory actually was correct, so I had to keep wondering.

LittleGrizzly - has that creepy following and was the first to switch over
to Shlin after CA
LittleGrizzly may also be a good kill choice - he's helping the town a lot by organizing all the nice vote tallies.
Should we investigate LittleGrizzly next round? Just to confirm what his deal about master and all that crap is.
Glad to see i at least caused some curiousity... i would like to claim it as some dramatic tactic which confused the mafia... i think it just consigned me and Reenk to an early grave...
It was exactly as wrote in thread, reenk offered to become samurai to whoever pm'd him first, this sounded like great fun to me... then all of a sudden i realised i had the responsibility of 2 peoples votes and it kinda guilted me into working harder, when the original pever joined me as well i was starting to worry i could single handedly lead to town to destruction...
Though Reenks posts more than made up for this i was literally cracking up for every single one...
I also like how my charater had progressed to some kind of minor general in my death write up...
I figured i would best withdraw after my death as i didn't have much of a clue and there where plenty of players so i didn't want to help pile them under in posts...
Great game, Thanks Andres!
Enjoyed it alot despite my early death....
Ohh and i was a newbie samurai... rapid rise and fall!
Lastly, well done ninja's!
