Thread: Interesting diplomacy trick for "free settlements"
AchubaNanoiaBR 21:05 15/05/09
Hey guys, today I was playing a Long Campaign as the Danes, and had a "" moment. I had just bought a settlement from the HRE for 1300 Florins per turn / 5 turns, and then they declared war on me. Then I noticed that I no longer had to pay any tributes to then! Now... after figuring this out, I've tried another strategy: I've reloaded my save, then I bought 3 settlements from HRE (which was quite the powerhouse on this game, they had almost wiped out Poland) for 5000 Florins per turn / 10 turns... which of course they accepted. Then, in the same turn, I declared war on then ; ) . Moral of the story: they just lost 3 settlements (2 cities, 1 castle, several mercenary crosbowmen and cavalry), which helped me jumpstart my conquests!

I guess every veteran know of this already, but hey, I felt so happy with this discovery that I thought I should share!

It works, but then again you are exploiting poor old AI
Note that you take a reputation hit doing so because you are going back on your treaty.
