Default Interesting historical characters you've gotten so far

So far with Prussia I've had Friedrich II (as king), Kurt Christoph Graf von Schwerin, Hans Joachim von Zieten, Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben (and no USA), Friedrich Wilhelm II (as a general), Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher, Immanuel Kant, along with the ones from the beginning and a few I can't remember atm.

With a new Britain campaign, so far I've got Robert Clive, 1st baron Clive, Sir John Jervis, Augustus Keppel, Benedict Arnold (LOL), and a few gentlemen I can't recall atm.

Having landed an expeditionary force in Bengal under Robert Clive, Sir John Jervis is now cruising the Atlantic in HMS Victory along with 7 other ships of the line looking for that elusive Spanish 3/4 stack....

I think half of those I've gotten I didn't even realize were historical characters. So my assumption now is that any character starting with more than the usual traits must be a historic one

Was a bit disappointed in Voltaire (as France) though. Started with merely Moral Thinker and nothing else. Was also funny to see that the first general I recruited in Saxony as France was some "Comte de Saxe" guy.

Only one I was unsure about but couldn't find anything on was "Jude Barry" as an admiral. He started with "Son of the Sea (+2 command)" and after John Barry was already dead in RTI CP4.

As far as I know historical characters still start off pretty vanilla (1 or 2 traits might be thrown in randomly), you have to "make" them good. Of course, all that entails is pretty much doing what they did in real life.

    Except....Benedict Arnold ain't no 8 star general!

Well Playing as the British I managed to get Gen. Braddock. I had him defending a wooden fort in Montreal and became my best general in the Americas because he was always successful at fending off the Huron from that little bastion of civilization from those half naked savages.

I got Braddock also and he became my highest ranking general, too. He appeared in America as a promotion unit for me.

I also got Nelson as an admiral though he got killed in action after I had him just a short while.

All original UP characters are famous in some way, and a lot of appearing gentlemen are some of the greatest geniuses Holland has ever seen . I can't name any of them right now, but have a look while playing UP, and wiki some of the names, it'll surprise you

Oh yes everyone knows about Sir Issac Newton.(of course) One game after I had established a foundation of early technology in Britannia I sent him to the continent to steal tech from other nations. However when I got to Magdeburg I had an opportunity that I couldn't pass up.

Sir Issac: COME OUT OF THERE YOU CALCULUS STEALING SWINE!

Leibniz: Me? I didn't steal it. It's not my fault you never published your work.

Sir Issac: Lying swine. I demand satisfaction.

    Leibniz: I choose pistols.

    Sir Issac: *click*
Leibniz: *click* Is the bullet stuck? *BOOM* *thud*

As GB, I have an admiral named "Abraham Lincoln". Oddly enough, he was the captain of a Pirate galleon I captured and pressed into service in my navy.

I have had "Daniel Defoe" among my gentlemen, and a certain "Jetro Thull"...

The Ottoman general on the eastern front, Baltaci, is a historical character, who defeated Peter the Great at the Battle of the Prut Marshes (1711), and thus stopped the Russians from obtaining a port on the Black Sea coast for another ~ 50 years or so... He was the Grand Vizier at the time IIRC.

this should be submitted on the bug report page immediately so I never have to see that one :)

I always see Jack Lusted, though he's not a very historical character.

I have Arthur Wellesley aka Wellington. I recruited him in Berlin in the year 1795, he was 36 or 39 years old and had 6 stars.

I got him last night in 1799 in London. 6 stars as well. I guess some do come out with higher stats. I wonder how many stars Napoleon starts with...

Yeah, I had Jethro Tull before I knew who he was. My immediate thoughts were: "Why do I have 70's prog rock band on my payroll?"

And yes, I felt pretty stupid once I'd Wiki'd him.....

Of course, we've all had John Churchill. Also, William Cowper is my current Prime Minister (Or First Lord of the Treasury, as the title actually was back then) and John Smith was my chancellor until he recently died.

I've had more, but listing them all could take a very long time.....

I have both Cornwallis (lost at Yorktown) and Burgoyne (lost at Saratoga) leading armies. Both are now save in Europe. And I have also Sir John Moore leading an army.
