    Default Alaska's options.

Thinking about the recent Russian victory in securing Abkhazia's independence from the Imperialistic Goergians I was thinking if that ware possible for Alaska.
    1) Option 1
    Join Russia

Since Sarah Pallin's failiure to obtain a decent position at the White House and the relative insignificance of the Alaskan vote in the last US elections I was thinking wheather it would be opportune for Alaska to split from US and join the Russian Federation. Just think, the benefits would be enormous.

    a) More ground to cover for the Alaskan crab fishing industry
    b) Free vodka to replace that cheap Virginian moonshine
    c) A true leader to respect (Vladimir Putin)
    d) Universal healthcare
    e) Mentaining that autonomy (after all Russia is a federation)
    f) An Eskimo unity
    g) The opportunity to learn a second language
    h) Keeping the flag
    i) Domination of the Bering strait
    j) Being part of the largest country in the world
    k) No more fear of suicide bombers

    2) Join Canada
    Same advantages
    3) Remain American
    4) Gah

Option 4) Join up with Mauritania:

    - Alaska can cut parts of its ice cap and ship it to its new Saharan mothercountry. Less ice in alaska, finally some fresh water in Mauritania. Everybody wins.
    - Sarah Palin has extensive foreign diplomacy experience. As president, she could solve the problems of neighbouring West Sahara.
    - Mauritania is rich in oil too. Together, they can oust OPEC.
    - Instead of drowning polar bears because of global warming, Alaska can fly them over to Mauritania. Here they can run riot and take over Africa from the puny lions.

Alaska must remain part of the US.

    1. We like round numbers. 50 states is good. You can take Alaska only if you can convince Canada or the UK to take it's place.
    2. The lobbyists for the Discovery Channel will oppose this to their last breath. Half of their programming comes from Alaska.
    3. Alaskan state politics are vital to the health of political humor.
    4. We can't afford another war for oil.

Where's the declare indepedence option? They can be like the Principality of Hutt River. H.R.H Prince Leonard declared independence from the opressive Western Australian government in 1970.

An option left off the poll, much to our discredit: Build giant exoskeletons.

Owens, 31, began building an 18-foot-tall, one-ton prototype at his home in Wasilla, Alaska, in 2004. Working without blueprints, he first built a full-scale model out of wood. Moving on to steel, he had to devise a hydraulics system that would provide precisely the right leverage and range of movement. He settled on a complex network of cables and hydraulic cylinders that can make the mecha raise its arms, bend its knees, and even do a sit-up.

Owens is working on two more prototypes, modifying the design to make it lighter and more maneuverable. He foresees mechas having uses in the military and the construction industry but acknowledges that right now they’re best suited to entertainment. The first application he has in mind: mecha-vs.-mecha battles, demolition-derby style.

    Thumbs up Re: Alaska's options.

The native Inuits should rebel and form their own country.

(this they should also do in Greenland, the Yukon and North-West Territories, and Nunavut. They are the majority populations there, after all)
(nevermind, the whites are majority in Alaska. *sigh*)
(Geez, the Inuits are a minority in the Yukon, too. Common!)
(But the Inuit are the majority populations in Nunavut and Greenland! They should rebel, yes!)
