Did Arabs speak Arabic at this point in time or was it an earlier Semitic language? This could be what they are working on.

The Sabaeans spoke Sabaic, which belongs to the Ancient South Arabians language group together with Qatabânic, Minaic and Hadramawtic. This group belongs to the family of the Western South Semetic languages. Of which Ge'ez (ancient Ethiopian) was part as well. Obviously this family of languages was part of the Semetic stock just like Akkadian, Aramaic, Hebrew, Punic and yes Arabic. Arabic however is from after our game's period.
As you can see above in only the region of Yemen there already were like four languages. There clearly was no singular language in Arabia at the time. In the north people spoke Thamudic, Saffaitic,... in the East there were Hasaitic dialects for one. Aramaic and other languages also let their mark on the region. Arabic evolved in North West Arabia after our time frame and was spread after and due to the birth of Islam.

Ah, well thanks for that hint, when in doubt about how awesome it is measure in how long you'd be rendered out of action from the hangover of the number of alcoholic beverages required to persuade someone to tweet it and spoil the suspense...

... In which case, the price of some of those units hinted at above would've left yours truly unable to form coherent tweets for the better part of next month.... Better not risk it.

It's that time of the year again* .

The time that I will write nothing significant or constructive yet very important to me .

It's the time I state my full moral support to the team , and thank them for their efforts and assure them that I will wait till the world ends , next year .

And , if we somehow survive this and we establish an internet connection , even after that .

Keep up the good work fellas , don't even wanna ask "when" or "how" or "what" .

    It'll be done when it's done , eh ?

So yes , it's the time of the year I state my respect for the EB2 team* . Nope , not a hint of ass kissing here , honestly .

    Total Support ( Totally Deserved ) .

    Satyros

    * and perhaps that time may come again , depending on my recurring feelings awe inspired from yet another EB1 game experience/strategic adventure .

Yes, it was. Still is actually. I hope to be succesfull in showing how diverse it was. In units for one.

Sabaic will howevr not feature a voicemod. We don't know how the words were pronounced and all that. Plus our knowledge of the language is limited as well.

Not even an in-house linguistic reconstruction? (Better knowing and producing accurately than of a poor, questionable quality, I guess? EB de facto policy? )

In all my ignorance, there wasn't anything like a koine semitic used by the tribes during trade or whatever relations with eachothers?

Very interesting Moros. The history of this part of the world is somewhat hazy for me pre-Islam but I would certainly be interested to learn more!

I've readed somewhere that Romans copied red clothes from Lusitanians... And they had other types of shortswords than falcatas

I'm always astonished how you can see the details you talk about in such little teasers.
The only things I can spot for sure are:
    - a spear (could be a javelin even, just a bit thick for that)
    - an edge of a (leather? fortiefied wood?) shield with some orange relief/sign on it
    - an upper arm that is partly covered by some red cloth
    - a small part of a brown body armour that looks like hardened leather
    - some black/white structure that doesn't make any sense to my eyes

So ....where did you spot a shortsword for example?

My wild guess would be - since Gustave hinted about a greek elite unit - either the Thorakitai Hoplitai (although I thought they didn't wear leather, have to re-check this) or Epilektoi Hoplitai (although leather makes even less sense in that case....)
Seems I'm not even nearly educated enough for this. :D

Anyway - I hope someone will guess it right soon, I want to know what that black/white thing is ;)
    Finished EB Campaigns: Kart-Hadast 1.0/1.2 | Pontos 1.1 | Arche Seleukeia 1.2 | Hayasdan 1.2 | Sab'yn 1.2 | Makedonia 1.2 (Alex)
Lost Campaigns (1.2, Alex. exe): Getai | Sab'Yn
    Ongoing campaigns (1.2): SPQR (110 BC) | Sab'yn (217 BC) | Pontos (215 BC)

If isnt Lusitanian must be a greek elite unit with very rich helmets, with many decorative items.. Maybe some kind of Elite Hoplitai/Thorakitai? The leather armour doesnt seem to fit with any well armoured elite of any greek faction I can remember from EB1. And the red color.... Maybe Bosphorous?

That black and white thing is a scabbard :P
Went for a shortsword 'cos the grip seems quite straight from what I can see...
The pattern on the shield looks like some grain ear or anything "drop" shaped, mmmm if Sparte is closer, could it be some Neodamodeis or Perioikoi?
