Gah, it's just a pile of shields on deck and not a person.

It's in the same dictionary where I found safinah. The reason for the latter being there at all is that modern Persian is unfortunately littered with Arabic words.

so what's wrong with that again? this happens all the time- English has been affected that way by Norman French (far more than Farsi was by Arabic too), as have almost every romance language out there has been affected by Germanic languages-especially French (e.g. Guerre instead of Bellum, Forêt/Bois instead of Silva, several names like Louis, Guillaume, etc). Even one Arabic dialect has been so heavily influenced by Italian and English it's now considered a separate language-and these are just a few examples. It's what happens when people want to invade/migrate intermingle.

Did I mention Arabic has a lot of loanwords from Persian?

those eyes are creepy. I seriously cannot understand why anyone would put that on a ship-I'm sure it creeped out the crew as much as the enemy

It's not Farsi Ibo, it's Persian. Not that it matters. I can picture you going around speaking of such languages as Hayeren, Italiano, Espanol, and so on. Totally ;)

that's just the name I grew up with: we had a guy who owned a grocery across the street who was from Iran. he insisted on calling it Farsi, so it kinda stuck. helps that in Arabic, "Persian" is called "Farisi" or "Farsi". so there

though, as you may note, I do use "Persian" as well. I don't really care. and no, I don't call Armenian that, or Italian, or Spanish. sorry to disappoint

That's highly unusual for a Persian. Some won't mind, but insisting on "Farsi"...

helps that in Arabic, "Persian" is called "Farisi" or "Farsi". so there
But only because you guys don't have a P. Persians do, which is why it's weird when they emulate the Arabic pronunciation.
