Apropos nothing, how will we get rid of the excess RBGs we have spawned? How was it done in LotR? I remember killing off an unwanted general in KotR by teleporting him to an island full of Venetian crossbowmen and having him moon them, but is there a better way?

Teleport them somewhere with a crossing over water (the green arrow kind, bridges won't work), order them to cross, and hit backspace while they are on the arrow. They'll die.

The Bosphorus was filled with dead RBG's. You could nearly walk over the straits at one point.

Well, you learn something new every day. How on earth did people discover that? I can envisage a terrible cry of dismay as someone's cat walked on their keyboard and their favorite general disappeared on a land bridge.

I finally found the starting save (hint: this thread a few pages back) and checked Alph out in game...
Extra traits not in the screen shot: Very Loyal, Plain, Religious. Good thing only Plain affects attributes not shown in screen shot.

So, for the rest of the people picking avatars: check them in game.

Not that this should be a problem in Regular game play, But I can not use the the console or pretty much anything involved with the keyboard in my M2TW game. For some reason whenever I use the keyboard for even a little while the game will freeze up, The menu and console will pop up and then it will load up the most recent save. I have had to play M2TW without the keyboard for the past 3 years...... I have tried finding ways to fix it, but no avail......... (anybody have any idea what may be wrong?)

just noting that I will be off skiing for the next 5 days. I've given theFlax the opportunity to steer my character in the tourney, if he so wishes, but he hasn't replied yet.

in any case, have lots of fun, and let's get this party started.

Did you try swapping out the keyboard, or do you not have access to another?

Tosa has now fixed the old style tables. These have been very useful in the past, particularly in the Library. If anyone wants to use this system and needs a tutorial, let me know and I'll explain it.

So it is the keyboard after all.... I was kind of hoping there was a way to fix it without getting a new keyboard, but I guess it was a false hope. I really dont have them money to shell out for a new keyboard at the moment, but I guess I will have to at some point.

I'd suggest shopping around online for a new keyboard. When I was building my computer last summer, I got a logitech USB keyboard and optical mouse off of newegg for 17.99$

Here are several KotF forum banners for people to use if they want. If anyone happens to find background images or fonts that would look nice for further banners, please send me links to them.

Do we need someone to knock up a tournament thread and create a draw? I believe there's a story to be posted first, perhaps, but it should be quite simple to create the necessary random match-ups from our player names without regard to characters.

What about if, for story purposes, we count the first pass as lances on horseback and if neither man withdraws afterward we call the remaining ones blunted weapons on foot?

Reading all this preperatory stuff has me cranked up and ready!

As for setting up a bracket, I think we should seed all the participants, first by rank for the pre-assigned characters and then by draft order. If we want to level things a bit, we could reverse it with the King being the lowest seed:

    1.Tristan de Castelreng (King Phillipe)
    2. Ramses II CP (Prince Louis)
    3. AussieGiant (Alain de Rohan)
    4. Cecil XIX (Raymond de Provence)
    5. Overknight (Hugues de Champagne)
    6. General Hankerchief (Raynaud de Xaintrailles)
    7. Ignoramus (Gaspard de Neufville)
    8. Ituralde (Simon de Montpierre)
    9. Northnovas (Robert Bouchart; reserved)
    10. TinCow (Christophe de Perronne)
    11. econ21 (Hermant Mauvoisin)
    12. deguerra (Raoul de Chatillon)
    13. YLC (Gaeten de Rethel)
    14. Rowan (Alphonse la Hire; reserved)
    15. Andres (Thierry de Rochefort)
    16. woads&fang (Bertin de Montsault)
    17. TheLemongate (Eloi de Montferrat)
    18. KnightnDay (Thomas de Saint-Amand)
    19. Cultured Drizzt Fan
    20. everyone
    21. Dafug3
    22. Vladimir
    23. Beskar

Once seeded, we build a bracket. Anyone who follows tennis tournaments or NCAA basketball should be familiar with this.

I found this site which will generate a bracket depending on the number of teams or in this instance players. Higher seeds tend to get byes to make sure there are always an even number of contestants in each round.

Just a thought, but 23 is infact a prime number -would this not create issues? One more player would fix it quite nicely though.

Seeds 1 - 9 would get first round byes with 23 players. Even if you had 24 players there would still be first round byes for 1 - 8.

Some players can't be there first of all. I think deguerra and Cultured Drizzt Fan.

Also, I'll start all tournament related things on Monday. What could be done before hand by about anyone is seeing who will be participating and randomizing the participant.

A Tournament thread where all participants will say that they .. participate.. will be good. This would make things simpler because it would be clear who is willing to fight and who will stay out.

I guess 8 year olds are not allowed to participate in tourneys?

    No.

But if you want to you can create the thread, or anyone else so inclined. It would be a great help.

While I am as psyched to get this going as you all are, maye more, it's gotten a bit jumbled up in a rush to get everything started. Didn't I read somewhere that the Senate Session will start on Monday also? Shouldn't the tournament be before that? And where can I find the complete rules we will use for the tournament duels?

As hard as it seems maybe we should slow it down a notch and get a general schedule. Some people don't even have a character yet. I'd rather wait a bit and give everybody time to participate in the stories than rush into this.

    Second.

We're making progress but we should get rules and such finalized before we begin.
