I've taken a first run at the duelling stats. Basically, we all lack much experience (valour), so we all have one attack. A few have traits that raise their fight value from 50 to 51 (brave, social drinker). A few have their hit points raised from 8 to 10 due to their marks of war.

Let me know by PM if I have messed up or missed anything.

I’ve also included some other information about players that I found useful or fun when running KotR. If Zim wants to copy the table, he’s welcome to. I could maintain it, but it would need a suitable home (a post I could edit).

    MEGA TABLE

    Notes:
    # = position on family tree
    Stats = Command - Chivalry/Dread - Loyalty - Piety
Duelling =Attacks - Fight Value - Hit Points
    Inf = Influence
Act = Player activity (number of Seneschal elections voted in)

One question - are we giving Constance and the two junior princes a vote (influence)? I've assumed yes for OOC reasons (it seems invidious to exclude three active players from the fun).

It's Marcus Agrippa/Alexandre Le Sueur not Eloi de Montferrat/TheLemongate in Bretagne.

GH, w&f, YLC and Rowan have a small advantage over the others. Good to know since I sub Rowan in this tournament!

    I'm liking Lorraine's odds.
Why did the chicken cross the road?

So that its subjects will view it with admiration, as a chicken which has the daring and courage to boldly cross the road,
but also with fear, for whom among them has the strength to contend with such a paragon of avian virtue? In such a manner is the princely
    chicken's dominion maintained. ~Machiavelli

There's something wrong with the username-links.

    They give:
This user has not registered and therefore does not have a profile to view.
If you want to link to a certain user's profile, then it should be [ user ]***username***[ /user ].

For LotR, GH (Patriach of Constantinople) and I (Anna Komnenos) each got to vote as an unnamed faceless senator. So I'm guessing we'll probably do something like that.

I recommend that it be stored in the Library. LotR made some improvements on organization which I think we should continue. All OOC information (rules, installation, etc.) were in one stickied thread and all information about the IC state of the game (normal Library info plus the player table) was stored in another stickied thread. This made it so that people didn't have to check several spots to find the info they were looking for.

Also, you can fix your player name links by removing the " before each number. One final suggestion: once mugshots are posted, add links from the avatar names to the specific mugshot posts. I did that in LotR and used it constantly as a reference so that I didn't have to scan the entire library to find the mugshot I was looking for.

A question to those of you familiar with these interactive games: How many hours a day can one expect to invest? Keeping up with the message threads is demanding. I can only imagine how a civil war is.

Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

You invest as much time as you want in your character. Putting a lot of effort into it is usually rewarding, but it's not a necessity.

The game just started, so I believe many of us are trying to manifest their character through writing a back ground story and being active in the IC thread.

We have two upcoming events that will probably generate a lot to talk about IC: tournament and the first Council session. There's also an unmarried princess.

Once the Seneschal takes the first save, activity in the threads will probably be a bit lower until the next event comes up.

The games go through cycles of activity and inactivity. Council sessions have a lot more posting activity than normal play periods, for understandable reasons. The current level of activity is (IMHO) some of the highest I've ever seen in any of the TW RPGs. I would expect this posting rate to continue through the tournament and into the Council session beyond, but to then slow down a bit as the game turns start advancing. After that, it will experience upswings during the periodic Council sessions and other times of unusual drama.

In any case, you really don't need to keep up with every single thread. The OOC thread is just used as a general chatroom and should NEVER contain any information that is necessary for the game that is not already posted somewhere else. If someone HAS to read the OOC thread to play the game, the game isn't being properly organized. If you don't have time to read it all, I suggest that you read the following first:

    1) IC Council Thread (when it opens)
    2) IC Thread for any House you are in
    3) Any PMs you receive

Everything beyond that, including the Tavern, Stories, Battle Reports, OOC thread, other House threads, etc. you can ignore if you don't have the time or the desire. These games tend to produce far more text than most of us have time to read, so it's perfectly normal to pick and choose.

There are a few roles - notably the King, Prince and Dukes - where the game suffers if their player's level of activity is low. But at any point in time - particularly now, at the beginning - there are only a limited number of armies and settlements to command, so really only a handful of players have to be very hands on.

Among most ordinary players, having varying levels of activity can make for a rather nice and plausible political feel. Some create a character, invest enormous time in it and really run with it, making the game more fun for everyone. But others who cannot spare that time still add to the ambiance by forming a kind of political "silent majority" that adds some ballast to the political side game - making the voting more impersonal and tense. For that reason, I personally prefer it if players who feel stretched still keep in the game rather than drop out - if only just to vote at the Council sessions.

I remember in the first of these games - the Will of the Senate - it was the more semi-detached players (the Upper House) that swung the civil war in favour of the Republic; partly because they had just been lambasted for their inactivity by the Consul.

EDIT: Not sure we have a woman player, but if we do, apologies for my ignorance.

It sounds perfect for the HRE. All those states.

edit: We at least have one person playing a female character so I treat them as such here.

That's correct for IC threads, but TheFlax is a man, so I wouldn't treat him otherwise OOC. Just think of it as authentic Shakespearean drama, where all the gals were played by dudes.

He misled me with his avatar when I joined LotR too.

AFAIK, the only woman who has ever been involved in any of these games was the friend of Ramses (?) who popped in for a while in KotR. I've always though frogbeastegg would be a great player, but IIRC she doesn't like M2TW at all.

I agree. No offense, but it is easier for me to think of you in your, um, in character gender so I get my pronouns right.

The real live lady was a friend of Tamurs.

She flirted (not literally) with the Illuminati for a few weeks before RL took over unfortunately.

Ok, that sounds good. Cecil has agreed to put the Table into the Library and to maintain it.

Zim, it is probably about time to create the OOC game information thread TC mentioned - including accepting the draft rules as the final rules (I think we can take silence as consent). With the tournament mini-game rules, I think they belong in that game information thread, but would prefer it if I could make a post with them in that thread. That way I can edit them if they need tweaking.

You're being gracious AG. She stormed in without permission after learning of the Illuminati from Tamur OOC, hijacked a bunch of our storylines, nearly alerted Hans to our presence and then dropped out, leaving us to pick up the pieces.

I think that was about the time Matthias started making a stink about emphasizing the Secret in Secret Society. He was such a wet blanket.

Yes that would be another way of stating the facts.

Arnold did go a bit mental at one point. Even giving Lothar some grief and especially paying out on Tamur.
