Default What Determines General's Death Age?

Hello, to make a long story short, I recieved a mission from the pope to send my Prince on the Crusade, so I built an army and off I went. Well shortly after(going by ship), my King died and the prince was crowned King, but the mission stuck. Well once I got around "Spain" I joined the Crusade to avoid dissertion. Well go figure, I was 2 turns from landing and attacking the target, and my King died, and on the next turn my entire Crusading army deserts. I spent a god awful amount of turns waiting to get there so I am not amused to say the least, but I did learn to never send only one General.

Question is, I saved the turn right before the King dies, and I've reloaded and ended turn 5 times and he always dies the next turn. Is this pre-determined or can I keep trying to reload and hope he doesn't die? I just can't stomach this stupid event :p

Well I am not sure about this but it does seem to be pre set although you can try until he doesn't die. Just to say something, the Moors alway lose their starting Sultan at a certain turn in the game, you can't change that.

Also not 100% sure however I am fairly certain its like this:

Your General gets to an old age of say around 50 and from there the game "rolls the dice" which would be a survival check against old age. Each turn or year goes by, the chances of that General dying of old age gets bigger. I think in Vanilla the oldest Generals get to is about 58, in other mods they usually die al little older than that.

As for the reason why your general dies every time you try and reload, I also think this is something that is programmed in the game so you can't "cheat" the game. I'm pretty certain events such as that and also Merchant Acquisitions and Assassinations keep occurring on every re-load as well.

I could most certainly be wrong, but that was my stab in the dark anyhow .

edit- Oh yeah and certain Traits that the General picks up throughout his lifetime would no doubt determine the length of his life.

Nah, starts at 60, and each year has a higher chance of dying.

No amount of reloading will change anything unless you change something in your save... Have a spy perform a mission or any other agent for that matter. Save and relaod... you should get a different result, if not rinse and repeat...

Ok thanks, he is 63 now so I'll try to reload and send agents on a mission or something to mix it up.

I'll let everyone know the results later just for future reference.

63 is starting to get rather old, he may only last another turn or two if you do manage to get him to survive after re-loading. Anyway, best of luck!

The game seems to have a memory. If I reload more than once, the same results will appear over and over again, unless some I try other actions first, as mentioned above. If you are stuck at the end of turn, as in your case, you'll need to quit the game and restart.
