    Default Sweboz question marks

    Hi, I have a problem with some sweboz traits, which show question marks instead of the correct letters. The strange thing is, I started a game with Pahlava to see how the letters are written here and there is not one question mark, everything is correct.

    I have EB 1.2 (installed a few weeks ago), all fixes and Alex.exe.The screen is from my ongoing KH campaign but the problem doesn't change when I start a new Sweboz campaign.

    I have attached a screenshot to show you the problem.

    Please run a validation and see if your EDCT comes up as changed.

    Sorry I said wrong, I meant export_VnVs.txt. Anyway, it shows that you have a modified file:

    I would think that this is the cause of the problem.

    Hmm I didn't change anything, maybe it is cause of alex.exe? Don't know.

    So could someone send me that file, would be very nice :)

    edit: the file was changed with alex.exe installation.

    Would be useful if a alex.exe player could send me his file :)

    It is indeed a bug with the .txt file under alex.exe, because other players have the same problem.

    Changed file: .\eb\data\text\export_vnvs.txt (expected checksum
    Somebody edited that file and saved it using the wrong encoding (the right encoding is UTF-16 or UTF-8). Presumably the file was saved in something like ANSI (or whatever the Windows implementation called ANSI) or ASCII. ANSI and extended-ASCII are not valid Unicode resulting in question marks when the data is interpreted as Unicode.

    Would anyone be so kind to attach the unmodified (vanilla EB) export_vnvs.txt? :)

    Then I could add the traits needed for Alexander manually and save it with the right encoding.

    I've overworked the file so all letters show under ALX.exe as it should be. If anyone needs the file feel free to contact me. The file is too big to attach.

    It is very easy to make this workaround - just copy the lines which are added with ALEX.exe to the original EB 1.2 file. :)

    I'm trying to understand the issue as I also play using the ALX engine mod from Maksimus. If I understand correctly, some of the unicode characters in traits (e.g. the Sweboz trait you showed above) are not being illustrated correctly because of the ALX engine mod files that Maksimus packed were saved in a non-Unicode format. What is the fix exactly that will correct this text formatting issue? I ask because if I'm not mistaken, the pack that contains the text files that make EB compatible with ALX is a pack of many, many files.

    The file is under data/text and is called export_vnvs.txt. Just copy the lines frome the file which comes with the Alex mod and then paste it into the file from your original EB. I would have attached the file here in the forums to make things easier but it's too big to attach.

    Ok I searched for an upload host so you don't have to manually edit the file and an easier life *g*. Just copy it to EB/data/text and voila :)
