On the words of the Sheriff the surrounding men knew that today was not going to be a bloodless day. Trigger fingers itched, the bandito would surely draw if they tried to lynch him.
With a couple of bottles of Whiskey under his belt lucid thoughts did not come easily to the sheriff. "I'm not here to play any games" he mumbled to himself "If I can't hang him, I'll shoot the whole lot of em".
Inside the Sheriff's office, broken shelves and holes in the ceiling testified to two things:
If there was one thing the Sheriff could do regardless of the alcohol in his system; it was draw a gun fast. His deputy often had to dive for cover on his drunken bosses worse days, but if there was one thing he couldn't do it was aim.
The Sheriff whipped out his pistol and fired wildly at everything and everyone. Dust flew as bullets hit the floor, the houses, the sky... But with six shots down the barrel probability was on his side; one bullet hit one his long suffering deputy who crumpled to the floor.
The blow to his head has left the young deputy from Elbayo with a splitting headache and swimming vision. The poor man was clearly trying very hard to understand what was going on. Raising his hand he pointed his finger at the others and said "pew pew pew". There was a pause in the mayhem and the other gunfighters looked at him oddly.
One of the Bounty Hunter levelled his Winchester and fired a shot into the sombrero clad, moustachioed man just as he tried to raise his own gun to kill the deranged pew pew man.
The crippled deputy tried to raise his weapon but collapsed backwards, finally dying.
Before the smoke had cleared the Sheriff and the first bounty hunter had their guns aimed at each other once more.
Only one man hadn't moved throughout the whole affair. The second bounty hunter, who clearly was't the brains of the partnership just stood there with slack jaw, his eyes glazed over apparently not even aware of his surroundings. A sad sight indeed.
Slowly it dawned on the Sheriff that his pistol was empty. He tried to holster it but in his stupor dopped it instead.
It was soon established that the Bandito and the Deputy were dead but more pressingly two of the surviors seemed to be having mental difficulties, and soon the Sheriff and the first bounty hunter were leading the unarmed deputy and the unaware bounty hunter with a kind arm. The two dead men were left in the street for now.
