    Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

    a small price to pay for have a true representative democracy at last, rather than an effective one-party state.

    I don't think it changes it from being a one-party state if the kids of the previous one-party state are the ones in the second party.

    Its like the young tories winning an election off the tories. Not really changing of the guard but handing down the baton from one generation to the next. All with the tick box of approval from the bureaucrats of the civil service.

    its a process, it will take time. the end result will be good for japan, being able to appreciate that not voting in the incumbent every time won't bring the sky falling in, as a political culture will emerge that does not sideline the voter in favour of the METI.

    Who cares? The PM is not the head of state, and all that symbolism regarding having an adequate spouse is irrelevant. The Japanese Empress is the country's first lady, and if the PM has married some crazycakes, it's no big deal.
