I have accounts at MySpace, Facebook & Twitter. I don't use them much.
MySpace was helpful a couple years ago when my son was in Iraq. He agreed to log on (if not say anything) a couple times a week, so I could check his page and see the "lastLogInDate", and therefore know that he was OK, not laying face-down in a ditch on the road to Baghdad Airport.
My sister started a family facebook contact thing, and I check it out once a week or so, to see who's getting married, going to school, etc. It 90% women/girls and distant relatives.
I made a Twitter account kinda like Lemur, after reading about the Mumbai attacks, and how friends and family (and gov't) there checked on folks' well-being in the aftermath. We get earthquakes and brushfires here, so I thought it might come in handy in the future. My sister tweeted me once, to say she was arriving in-town at 9:30. So far, that's it. :)
In short, I'm always interested in new ways to communicate, and will try anything at least once. So far, I always resort/revert back to email and forums as my preferred modes.
