Thumbs up If you have $850 you really, truly don't need, get this case

We wants it, Baginses, and we must have it. Thermaltake Level 10. Makes no financial sense, and I'd probably regret it the moment it arrived, but still, I can lust.

    Unboxing the beast.

    -edit-

Looks as though you can order one pre-built from ibuypower. Apparently they have some sort of exclusive deal.

That's pretty neat. It kinda looks shrink-wrapped.

I had to change my pants... twice. Brilliant design if power consumption is irrelevant to the user.

Hmm, I can think of a lot of reasons to ding this design (850 of them, in fact) but power consumption didn't spring to mind. I don't see how this case is significantly more power-hungry than a standard ATX. Maybe you could explain a little?

I digress. I do not think you would regret it at all.

The only real problem with that case is that you would feel like the ultimate shmoo if you did not fill it with top shelf, budget-splattering innards.

I'd have to put an addition on to the computer room and rebuild the desk to squeeze it in.

About 15 grand oughta cover it.

If I won the lottery, that would be my chassis for sure. Possibly even go for the stereotypical movie hacker effect of like 4 massive screens and all that stuff.

I wasn't dinging it, just noting that the design's very 'it' factor virtually has to require seperate cooling per component which, in turn, will inevitably ramp up power consumption. It's not practical experience with the case, just a logical inference.

Hmm, the power supply will have its own fan no matter what, the CPU will have its own fan no matter what, the CPU will have its own fan no matter what. The main boxy area, which would contain the GPU. CUP and mobo will have at least one fan, which is par for the course.

By virtue of their isolation, the HDDs should be okay. Nope. I don't see that this would require extra cooling. Could be wrong though; I often am.

You forget that 'fans' are not the only way to cool components. There are heat sinks and I think the whole design is a giant heatskink as there is a lot of surface area.

So Louis, if by chance you get one for free, you're saying you'll give it to me? Cool. I'll pay shipping!

That reminds me of the infamous Zalman TNN 500A, an entire case that was designed as a heatsink. No idea if they're still making it, but here's a review. I wish more case makers would think of whacked-out stuff like this.

nice case, but the next case i use will be the Silverstone Fortress FT02:

but then i am a bot of a Silverstone whore considering i have three computers that use Silverstone cases:

With the component isolation and surface area, I would imagine heat wouldn't be a problem for peripherals. You might run into a few issues with routing the wiring (length mainly), but it looks pretty slick.

Not sure about the noise levels you would get, but if they are low enough, it would be nice if they put in some kind of bracket for an LCD to attach on the backside. Then you could put the whole thing on the desk, and move everything with the top handle.

This is certainly an interesting thought; I didn't 'forget' it I just took for granted that each of those visible sinks (I'm presuming the 'grill' surface between each drive bay is a sink, which could be a mistake, but with HDs it's better safe than sorry in my experience) would require it's own fan due to the impossibility of establishing a broader airflow pattern. With no containment you can't plan out how the air will move, so you have to simply plan to move the warm air away from the hot component.

That's a lot of assumptions though, so I'm not putting any money on my idle comment it's just the first thing that came to mind. It'd be interesting to see a liquid cooling system integrated across the exposed surfaces but that would reduce some of the elegance of the design I suppose.

I think the first thing I would do is unplug all of the LED strips and backlights. The design is bold enough without pimpin' bling lights.

Furunculus, that Silverstone case looks sweet, good call.
