Well, hang on, speaking as a mod, is there no legitimate, legal way to resell a game that activates on Steam? There must be some sort of workaround that isn't shady. Let's Google this and see ...

Oh. Ouch. Yowza. Looks like the only thing you could do is transfer the entirety of your Steam account, and that would be non-trivial, as the engineers say.

Games bought through Steam cannot be resold. The Steam Subscriber Agreement denies users the right to "sell, charge others for the right to use or otherwise transfer [an] account"; Valve disables any accounts that they believe to have been sold or transferred. Furthermore, retail purchases which have already been tied to a Steam account will not be transferred to another if the receipt presented to Valve as proof of purchase is from an "online auction website or used software vendor". This prevents players from swapping, re-selling or borrowing Steam titles.

wtf is wrong with those people? seriously. so its actually impossible to buy any 2ndhand E:TW game. Do you always have to log in on steam to play? or can you play it without steam? is steam only required for online play?

i think this is seriously ******* up i mean i wouldnt even be able to borrow the game from a friend now would i?

I've looked around on google n stuff and reread the post above...

so basically once youve bought the game and installed it, no one else can play it?

    this is tyranny...

Yeah, it really is, but it's not just happening on Steam, lately I ate chocolate and then I couldn't borrow it to my friends anymore.

    you are a bastard...

on a more serious note... its not a good comparison. there is no shop telling you that once you've bought and opened the bar of chocolate, ate a piece and got full, you cant give it to your friend anymore... im sure if there was a shop who did that and could enforce it, no one would buy food there.

Terrible comparison, since the usage of chocolate prevents anyone else ever using it again, unlike games.

And just how would they find out?

Although if my legs were going to be broken by someone, it would have to be Gordon Freeman.

Now you know why I don't buy games that require Steam. You aren't really "buying" them in the strict sense of the word, you are only renting them until Valve decides you can't play them anymore.

Well it depends. Most of the digital copies, you're right, you're renting them, but the physical copies are still yours to own, apart from the activation code which I am sure can be broken or replaced in case Steam blocks your original one for whatever reason.

Technically there should be no reason to block your Steam activation code. But you never know these days.

...And? If you sell your Steam account as a whole, there's nothing they can do.

I thought we were just talking about how the usage of games on Steam prevents anyone else from ever using them again?!

Or you can just do what drone does and not buy Steam games if you don't like their system, it's not like anyone was forcing you to buy Steam games or like you had a right to own them exactly the way you want. Don't like the system, buy something else.

I thought you were justifying what they're doing.

Or I could just ignore what Valve says, buy them boxed and do whatever I like with them.

I didn't even know there was anything wrong with what they're doing to begin with. You may not like it but that doesn't mean it's wrong in a moral sense.

Good luck trying that with ETW...
