Thread: The Fall Of Ur.

  1. #1

    Default The Fall Of Ur.

I dragged my feet and stretched my arms
In truth, I shed my tears in front of Anu
"May not my city be destoryed!" I said indeed to them
"May Ur not be destoryed!" I said indeed to them
"And may its people not be killed" I said indeed to them
But Anu never bent towards those words
And Enlil never with an "It is pleasing, let it be"
    Did soothe my heart
(behold), they gave instruction that the city be destroyed
(behold), they gave instruction that Ur be destoryed
And as its destiny decreed that its inhabitants be killed...
    (dead) men, not potsherds,
    Covered the approaches.
    The walls were gaping,
    The high gates, the roads,
    Were piled with dead.
In the wide streets, where feasting crowds would gather,
    Scattered they lay.
In all the streets and roadways bodies lay.
In open fields that used to fill with dancers,
    They lay in heaps.
    The country's blood now filled the holes, like metal in a mold;
Bodies dissolved, like fat left in the sun.

I think it's from the Lament for Ur: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lament_for_Ur
I have no idea how this relates to EB though.

EB's reach does not go as far as to strike Ur. That's fine though. There's always Babylonia =]

This is not only a forum for EB players, but also a forum for people with a common interest in ancient history

    Normally I'd say "inb4themove" but....yes I liked that.
