Default So they said I could go an live on an island somewhere

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
    Dropping from the veils of the mourning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's wings.

I will arise and go now, for always night and day
    I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.

Good old WB is always there for life's important moments.

It has been my privilege to serve this community for three years now. Unfortunately, good things rarely last forever. The demands of real life and responsibilities stake their claims, as they must.

The Org as a whole, and this little conclave of extraordinary people in particular, have befriended, inspired, amused and informed me in ways I couldn't have imagined when Tosa slapped a tea-towel on my head and gave me a tatty manual on Cat-herding for Fun and Profit. You have all helped me become a better person, and I have been lucky to make some marvellous friendships. Thank you for that and everything that you each contribute to our Org.

For the foreseeable future, I no longer have the time to dedicate to helping the team moderate this place as I believe it deserves. I have therefore stepped down, but I will be around from time to time to add the odd fey and dissolute thought - and maybe resume my erstwhile career as a purveyor of mind-boggling genital mutilation stories. Obviously, I can once again pursue my long-term goal of getting a warning from KukriKhan, and have to thank him publicly for taking the cross onto his broad shoulders just as he was getting used to his retirement. Like all the great super-heroes, when the world faces peril he dons the cape again (although I always think of him as Captain America ) I'm sure you will give him every support.

I enjoyed my time here. Thank you again for being such a great crowd. Take care. I'm off to find some bees.

Thanks for your contribution to the Org, BG. I hope that even if you don't have the time to read and inspect each and every abortion-guns-gay-religion-politics thread, you'll still pop in from time to time.

Wow. What to say... I feel compelled to say something negative and rude to counterbalance the outflowing of support which will soon follow, but I can't.

I've had some bombastic reactions to some of your "steady reminders" but can't say enough good about your contributions.

It feels like Dr. Who is dying.

Thank you for your contributions BG and taking on the hardest job at the Org. You performed your duties with honour and integrity that are too easy to take for granted here. I hope you can remain a regular. Your insight and humour would be sorely missed otherwise.

Posted in Bootnotes, 12th January 2010 15:24 GMT

Women considering going under the knife to boost their assets are being offered the chance to "chest drive"* implants before committing to surgery.

The Hospital Group explains that prior to popping in a pair of top-of-the-range Natrelle breast implants, its surgeons deploy the Biodynamics® Breast Analysis System, which involves an initial measure-up, followed by a "clever breast implant visualisation system" and finally "a specially designed vest, bra and a range of external 'simulated breast prosthesis'".

The prostheses are apparently a highly sophisticated kind of "chicken fillet", which allow customers to "literally see and feel the difference breast augmentation will make to your body shape".

Once they've fine-tuned their choice, women will be endowed with one of 500 different Natrelle implants, which come in "4 projections, 4 gel types" and, rather disturbingly, "smooth or textured surface".

    Dammit!

[*warns the KukriKhan account 27 warning points*]

I'd composed a tribute thread to my dear friend Banquo's Ghost, to honour his promotion from Moderator to Senior Member. Now, for naught.

OK. It's better this way, himself explaining. Who could do it better, afterall?

I've been around this place for 10 or so years now. Worked with almost everyone of one you on one project or another, large or small, stupendous or personal; Gregoshi showed me how the value of sticking to a task relentlessly... Banquo's Ghost showed me how assumed duty dictates daily dedication, even in the face of personal hardship.

    I salute them both.

Will you at least come by and post every so often? You already made your mark with your infractions. I think you even banned me a couple times. You can't just dissappear like this, it's not fair!

I'm not a big speaker here, but the backroom will feel different without you, just as every section does when a person leaves that has made a mark.

Darn, I will miss BQ. On the other hand, perhaps I will get the chance to swear in Russian once more*. Good luck and best of wishes Banquo. Tell Kukri not to crucify me xP.

You've been moderating on the .org for as long as I've been here, if memory serves correct. It's always sad when a member of the old guard from as long as I've been here takes leave.

Take care, enjoy yourself, keep in touch.

It seems sad that the only words we've ever shared was because you were belting me with an infraction point.

You seem like a topnotch bloke, with a lot to give to the world. I don't know if this is out of place, but all the same:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
    And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

The thread is presented as a goodbye to moderation duties, but I fear this is a farewell. I am overcome with sadness.

Which begs for the consolation of Camus: 'In order to exist just once in the world, it is necessary never again to exist'. There is no meaning in eternity. All things must come to an end, if they want to exist in the first place. The essence of existentialism. For to exist, to have existed, this single bright spark, not a hope against hope for all things, for all life, to last forever, constitutes the grandeur of this life.

I had so much to learn yet, from a man who has got everything, but lost what was most dear, and thought me the meaning of Camus because of it.

There is no friendship without goodbye. So should I not see you again, I bid thee, and Camus would approve of the mischievous appeal to God: adieu, mon ami!
