I am sure it has been posted somewhere but I just can't find it.
For the sake of improving the campaign gameplay on my crappy old PC, I think it would be necessary to return the beautiful roving sea of EB to the old RTW type. How do I do this?

It's on the main EB site. However that shoudn't improve your game, since the change is just cosmetic

Yes I definitely need new glasses rather than new PC.
Thank you, that is what I was looking for!

i have switched to the vanilla sea abt a month after i first downloaded EB although i prefered the EB sea display (i did it mostly out of curiousity to check any differences on game speed performance). My personal experience is that it made scrolling through the strategy map waaaaaaay faster...(my pc uses an 1,5 Ghz intel celeron processor with a 1,24 GB RAM which is admittedly low for today's standards)
Ongoing Campaigns: Baktria, Casse, Koinon Hellenon, Pahlava.
Abandoned/Failed Campaigns: Aedui-Epeiros-Pontos-Saba-Saka Rauka-Sauromatae. (I'll be back though!)
I had them both as well, and didn't notice this. IMHO that's just an impression, because if you have the RTW water the lag is not so visible. If you however have the EB water, the game seems very lagy because of the wawes.
i hope you know what i'm saying, i didn't really express my self well![]()

Sea isn't your problem. You shouldn't put too much faith into your belly. I did too try vanilla sea and it didn't do squat. Try turning some services, processes you don't need.
Do msconfig in start menu and do contrl-alt-del to bring up task manager. Just start tick off everything that's not "local service." That's what I did and pc didn't explode. EB loads faster now. There's another step which shows some descriptions but I don't remember how to bring it up.

If you are running a 64-bit operating system, and have 3GB of ram or higher, and installed using the RTW CD and not through Steam, you can use CFF Explorer to allow the RTW executable file to access more than 2GB address space, decreasing memory leak occurence, thereby reducing crashes and hopefully speeding things up. But then again, if you had 3GB of ram or higher, you probably wouldn't have had such a laggy campaign map.

I'm going to try not losing my temper because this has been discussed ad nauseum.
The seas won't do a damn thing to improve your performance. Not a thing. Here is the process through which the average person goes through when they load up EB:
1. Install EB and run it.
2. Turn on the script, which is several MB worth of text.
3. Like it, but think to themselves, "Wow, this is great, but the game is going so slow. It must be the water... even though it is clearly a texture and that in all actuality there is no possible way it could actually affect the performance of the game unlike a model."
4. Resolve to get the old water texture from Vanilla, because image files of the same size must have different performance.
5. Revert back to the old water texture, run EB, go to the campaign map and proceed to zoom around while thinking to themselves, "Yeah! That's the ticket!"
6. Activate the script and then be completely oblivious to the sudden drop in speed caused by the game parsing so much text.
So there you have it from a developer standpoint...

I this case I would strongly recommend to not use this kind of programs, they go deep into your system.
Search for the link to Theage's thread here if you do want to try it out.

Actually, there is a very good guide for using CFF explorer in the paradox forums. If anyone has played Europa Universalis 3 and had diddled with some of the mods then check out MEIOU. They have themselves a nice, easy to follow guide for changing the memory stuff.
But XSamatan is right, it is messing around a little with some files so don't do it unless you are prepared to reinstall after a botched attempt (you shouldn't have any mistakes, its pretty easy when you follow the picture guide)

I don't know if anyone else has this, but I have huge fps drops whenever I am trying to move a unit who doesn't have any movement points left. I hate that bug. I too, blamed it on the sea once, but now I can clearly see it isn't.

Hi. It's been a while. I personally would not recommend you to mess with the executable at all. In fact, don't hack it whatsoever. I'm sure there's something written somewhere about how you're not supposed to do that. That's in addition to the potential (if there) that you could fry your computer or cause the formation of a black hole 2cm above your CPU or something. In a nutshell, unless you know what you're doing and have done similar operations before, don't try it at home. I brought it up only because I was familiar with it and was meaning to remind people who were familiar with that approach to consider it if they had not already.
Merry belated Christmas and happy early New Year.
