I really like what Treyarch did with World at War, and considering the problems over at Infinity Ward at the moment, it'll be nice to have Treyarch working on something without the pressure of "THE GAME MUST BE BETTER THAN COD4!" in their ears.

Unfortunately, I cannot think of anything more boring than the Vietnam War; America goes in trying to stem a Communist occupation of the whole country, loses fifty-eight thousand men and doesn't really gain anything from it except worldwide media pressure and disdain. I'm unsure why Treyarch would choose to focus on a war that is probably one of the worst decisions made in recent military history. And this is from the perspective of a historian. :3

I guess I'll wait and see how the game looks before I start cleaning my M16.

Why not a Call of Duty: French Foreign Legion with a fictive scenario in Africa?
You could have more interesting weapons and might even make it a lot better than Far Cry 2 ever was.
Then again a Battlefield: French Foreign Legion would be better anyway...

I think the interesting part of Vietnam is the jungle landscape, but that can be had in other areas and times as well.

I wonder whether it will have the vietgangstas running around with akimbo shotguns.

It's virtually assured to sell in America which is important and there will of course be massive arguements in the backroom and the monastery on the winning or losing of said conflict.

Not really a surprise. November is when most games are released in anticipation of the Christmas sales and thus highest profits. Plus Call of Duty is the argueably the hottest FPS game franchise atm.

Vietnam games are traditionally terrible. I wait with a smirk on my face and my money safely in my wallet. It just doesnt sound like it will be good. They are going to butcher the conflict probably and if there is a level where you are an American soldier who sees like a baby killing or something i will shoot hese developers myself. traditionally the games have the whole multiple personalities going on. So who else are you going to play as.......the NVA or Vietcong, it would just be ridiculous to play as SVA. OH i bet you paly as a hmong guerilla helping the americans.

    this is going to suck.

I would give them a bit more leeway than that now Centurion1 we dont know anything about it yet it could be brilliant. Who here would have said an obscure Japanese RTS back in the day would go on to be so unique it's still not bested by other developers. However the potential for massive revisionism of the conflict may hurt wider world appeal or it may not killing as those innocents in the airport didnt seem to matter gah maybe I know nothing

The best second campaign if not NVA or Vietcong would be Australian SAS or Jungle Ghosts who were a cause of terror in the Vietcong. It would be a much more stealthy way of going about things

Or play the american special forces and train the locals on how to use a gun, make them run obstacle courses and give them theoretical lessons about tactics!

Those brutal killer babies! How could developers even consider including them in a game?

I don't see why you couldn't play as SVA. A CoD game isn't going to start letting you play the "bad guys" anytime soon though, so NVA (nevermind VC) will be out.

Anyway, hopefully the Battlefield guys will trump this CoD game, too. Battlefield: Vietnam 2 (Electric Boogaloo) anyone?

That's not true, and even if it was, CoD has historically let you play as the Russians, who were "trash" compared to the Germans at least on a kill ratio.

yes they were. they did not fight any huge offenses because their morale and trainign were so bad.

And the kill ratio in Russia v. Germany is highly exaggerated and improved vastly once they had real generals and proper armaments.

Just like by the end of the war and vietnamization the ARVN was doing all the lifting and not too shabbily. According to wikipedia something like a million ARVN soldiers died in the war. That's a much bigger contribution than the US, even if they were pound for pound less successful. Also according to the wiki article on the ARVN, they basically invented the way armored cavalry fights from AFVs. I don't know why you have a problem with the Vietnamese but it's pretty dumb.

What happened after the Us left. All the important things were done by the US. I have nothing against vietnamese people the NVA were excellent fighters and the Vietnamese propaganda campaign was pure genius. They had some good leaders and very good american equipment and decent training, but their morale was poor and as a whole they were poorly led.

And none of that affects gameplay in a CoD game.

Speaking of Surrfin Bird, I hope they have an orchestra for music, I'm tired of Nam games always having 60's tunes. Nothing wrong with the music, I just want a proper sound track to a game, not a radio station playing the top 50. You don't see WWII games with a 40's sound track to them.
