    Default The Kentucky Derby

It's the first Saturday in May

I put a dime on Statey Victor going off at 40 odds.

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

Excellent, I had Stately Victor winning even before I read this thread. To know that I have the wisdom of a man such as Strike on my side only increases my confidence in a stately victory today.

The hottest female jockey isn't in the race. If I could afford a race horse I'd want Chantal to be my jockey.

Jesus, Borel is on fire at Churchill. You'd think somebody else would have learned and just gone straight for the rail by now.

So basically the American version of our Grand National except without the jumps and the people wearing ridiculous hats?

Our version of the Grand National happened today, but it wasn't in Kentucky. The Virginia Gold Cup. The Kentucky Derby is just a boring race around a flat, groomed track, by horses with no true stamina. Plus, the VA Gold Cup has Jack Russell races.
