i have installed RTW and BI to C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War.

And like XSamatan says. Installing games under Program Files with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (which you clearly have) only gives problems. Better to make a folder somewhere under "lbrary" or "user" called games and install them there.
