    Default playing eb problem...

i am on the newest windows[windows 7 i think], anyways, im not sure if that is relevant. i have followed all the installation instructions. i have installed RTW gold editiion, and then patch to 1.6 barbarian patch. now i install EB 1.1 and then 1.2. the problem is there wasnt a shortcut created on my desktop and the 'EB Play' file in my rome total war folder always makes me play RTW. so how exactly do i even play EB? ive played EB 1.2 before and i've never had this problem.

Welcome to the forums. First off, this should be in the problems sub-forum. Second, have you installed EB into the root installation directory of Rome: Total War? If installed correctly, you should be able to play the game using the Single Player shortcut found in Start >> Programs >> Europa Barbarorum >> Single Player. Question: have you installed Rome via the CDs or Steam? If Steam...then there are additional instructions to follow.

RTW Gold edition is already patched to 1.5 Vanilla and 1.6 Barbarian Invasion.

Edit the target line of 'EB Play':
Modify the shortcut target. Move the end quote from the end of the line to directly after RomeTW.exe and it should work (goes for both the new shortcuts in 1.2). For instance, instead of "C:\My games\RomeEB\RomeTW.exe -mod:eb -show_err -ne" it should be "C:\My games\RomeEB\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -ne.
You might get problems under Vista/Win7 if you installed EB under Program Files.

Vartan: i have installed it in the right folder and have installed it via CD.

XSamatan: i tried doing that and all it does is when EB opens it immediately minimizes and stays like that, as in i cannot 'maximize' it and therefore unable to play or even see it.

Maybe you're playing in windowed mode? If you've installed the trivial script, you can go to options and change that there. If not, make sure there's no -ne after your shortcut target line.

no sir i am not playing in windowed mode. let me recap what i have done. i have installed RTW and BI to C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War. I have correctly installed EB 1.1 and 1.2 into the folder. What the problem is that there is no 'file' for me to play EB. when i play Run EB in the programs[windows 7]it directs me to RTW, as in i am playing RTW, NOT EB. and anytime i use the EB Play shortcut in my rome total war folder it will run, but it will stay in the bottom tab minimized, if i try to click on it i will go into 'EB' and then it will immediately minimize everytime i try to click on it. i recall when in the past when i installed EB that it would create shortcuts on the destkop, it never does now. perhaps it's been happening ever since i've had windows 7, i am not completely sure.

Make a new shortcut on your desktop and let it have a target line of: "C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm

    and a start-in line of: "C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War"

    It will run.

What do you mean create a new shortcut? you mean create a new shortcut of 'EB Play' in the RTW folder, or "Rome Total War" itself and then do what you stated above?

Right click on your desktop, in any blank area, and you will see an option called Create Shortcut. Call it what you want, it could say "I love you Mom" for all I care. Then, proceed by right clicking on your short cut, going to properties, and filling in the target and start-in boxes appropriately. Enjoy.

P.S. Don't take the example seriously (although my shortcut does indeed say that...)

And like XSamatan says. Installing games under Program Files with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (which you clearly have) only gives problems. Better to make a folder somewhere under "lbrary" or "user" called games and install them there.

Nice. I'm glad you got it to work. As for the program files, if you are an admin, it should be fine. I never had a problem with it. You can always install in C:\ just to be safe though.
