Thread: Hoplite overhand animation

    Default Hoplite overhand animation

Hi, i know that there is still a debate on how the hoplites used their spears but frankly, I don't care...i want them to use their spears underhand, like the units that use light spears.
    So my question is this:
Is there a way to change the strike animation of the hoplites so that they use the mentioned animation?

    Many thanks.

    No, there is no debate.

Yes, there is a way, but I don't know offhand how easy it is. Hopefully it's as simple as going into the units text file and telling it to use the underhand animation. It still exists in EB and a lot of units use itso it is still available in the game.

Thing is, the spears will be backwards then.

open the CAS file in 3DS max, and rotate the spears, give them correct underhand fs_spearman animation in DMB, and you'll got all you want

All hoplites used their spears overhanded right? I've heard from somewhere that maybe the first row 'could have' used their spears underhanded?

It's possible, but pictorial evidence suggests that overhand was the normal stance, and this always involves the frontline. Off course, this does not mean hoplites would have used overhand under all conditions but we simply do not have evidence either way.
