I can grow (and usually sport) a respectable mustache & goatee, but that's about it. For whatever reason, my whiskers flatly refuse to exceed a half-inch, so a full beard is out of the question for me.

I suppose now there'll be a debate on whether or not they count as facial hair?

I can grow a beard thanks to the slav in me I choose not to.

To rest my case, can you grow a beard in the military? No, and only real men join the military. Beards are for hippies, communists, and catamites.*

    * why catamite you ask? Well when you throw down a statement like that you gotta throw words like that around.

you do realize I'm joking round here..course I know all that; even though I can grow a beard, I still shave it anyways. I personally don't really care, but I do like jabbing people nonetheless. (I suspect you're referring to my post and that of others who expressed similar attitudes-jest or not)

besides, Assyrians were manly, and so was Philip II , and they grew beards

I believe special operations and navy seals guys can grow beards.

Also, is it a coincidence that America's military had many of its greatest generals when beards were in fashion? Sherman, Ulysses, Lee?

Yes, winters here are quite scary. Especially the last few years. Lots of snow, lots of cold, lots of .. well.. everything bad!

I was there during a New Years. The air was so cold, it felt like walking around in a needle-stack of invisible needles.

It was a very odd sensation.

I shave, only my face, like it clean for now but don't mind if there's a bit of a shade.
I think if I let it grow it would mostly be a goatee and mustache as well, there's a bit on the sides but probably not enough for a full beard.

I can grow a full beard. I do occasionally around this time a year if I'm not working nor have to look professional. I usually shave every couple days though.

Sometimes I'll grow a goatee and mustache for a while. I don't get too much density, so I keep 'em trimmed short to avoid looking terrible. My facial hair's too patchy elsewhere to get anything to work. And on top of all that, the wife prefer's kissing me when I'm cleanshaven, so that's some good motivation to not grow it out too often. So does that put me at 'semi-man,' or just 'androgynous'?

Beards are awesome. Until they get itchy (especially in summer), then it is shaving time.

I've had the same beard since I turned 19. It has served me well, it's a little messy right now though. Probably should clean it up.
