The English and Scottish Parliaments had more say in the matters at that point, and elected the new "CEO" as it were, bringing in high priced foreign talent to take over. The selection of the Hanovers with the Act of Settlement was done in a similar fashion. Arguably, the English Parliament was the real power in the country, so no conquering was achieved.
