Thread: ELO and Other Rating Systems; Private Ladder

Post ELO and Other Rating Systems; Private Ladder

Dear multiplayer community of Europa Barbarorum and Rome: Total War in general,

Does anybody amongst you know how to plug-n-chug the ELO mathematics or the mathematics of any other ratings system? Or how to apply those models into a spreadsheet to make things easier for us? This is for a prototypical private ladder (a test) that would hopefully be reliable over time in terms of ranking the people who still play tournaments for RTW, EB and other mods. Mod leaders of RTW, BI and ALX mods feel free to join.

Thanks, and please refrain from replying simply to post comments of discouragement, disagreement or any similar statements.

    Much appreciated as always,

I don't know, but I feel like there are a lot of variables in RTW...
I mean chess is one thing, but here you have terrain, different units ecc...
    I simple W - L - T it's nice and easy XD
It might even look good in one's signature as long as people don't develop hubris ^^

Fortunately the terrain and units have nothing to do with this rating system. It only has to do with wins and losses. I'm actually some 70 or 80 percent done modeling the formula on paper, so I guess I'll report back soon. The only problem I have is getting it into excel.

I know that the system counts wins and losses, but it's not always about black pieces against white ones that was my point...
You'll end up havin' a flawed chart...

It's a ratings system, not a fashion magazine. It's based on the ELO rating system and weighs wins and losses by the difference in ratings between the two players, whether or not they are provisional (under 30 games), whether the game is a simple rated game (such as monthly tourneys), or whether the game is an annual major event such as a cup. Nothing is flawless; flaws and imperfections are themselves what make this world perfect.

No you didn't mention that. You just said you did non-programming work. And that sucks 'cause if Excel can't do this for me, including an interactive plug-in system with prompts, etc., then I'll have to start programming this baby ASAP.

EDIT: You're frequently AFK so...write me back on Hamachi bro.

Done the frame of the application and the data import . now i'm working on implementing the formulas and make it auto-update + a nice pic which shows the ladder.

Quite tricky challenge for excel & VBA , but hope it comes out right.

Sorry for the lack of news , but i've been moving my home and thus disconnected from internet. Also work was hell , so the tool is a bit behind. I apologise about that , but i promise it will be finished although cant say exactly when.

No worries. I have to update the formula screenshot as the hotlink isn't working properly. Will edit when completed.

The newly implemented tournament system here at the Guild forums might prove to make our project obsolete, but not just yet. As of this writing, the sole tournament test indicates that the winner will be given a boost of 50 ELO points. There was no loss of points for the loser, and the boost for the winner was fixed value. This isn't pure ELO but simply a fixed value that only goes up for the winner of entire tournament. I'm sure there are more features, but just saying as of this writing the project of private ELO calculation continues.
