Default A question about Koinon Hellenon Phalanx units

Hello there, I 've been playing Koinon Hellenon, and I 'm pretty advanced in the campaign now. I believe all units are available for training, yet I see there are no phalanx formations within the Koinon Hellenon :s Why is that? Even though most hoplites are described as Phalanx units, I don't see any option like that being open to me =/
I have installed a mod which gives some stances too, like Shield wall and Warcry (can't remember the mod's name), but even before that, Phalanx formation was never an option to me :| It just seems pretty weird to me that Makedons and Epeirotes support phalanx, and Athenians/ Spartans don't..

The word 'phalanx' was used in history to describe both Greek hoplite close-order spear formations, and Macedonian pike formations (although the long Macedonian pikes are called sarissas, not pikes - but pikes is what they actually were.)

In EB, 'phalanx formation' means 'pike formation' - specifically the Macedonian phalanx formation. Hoplites use short 8-foot spears, wielded overhand, not long 21 foot pikes wielded underhand, so hoplites don't use the EB phalanx formation.

Yeah. The old-style, classical phalanx that the Greeks used was more of a shield-wall than anything else, whilst the Macedonian phalanx was a spear-wall. You'll notice that if you put your Classical Hoplites on "guard mode" and protect their flanks, they're crazily resilient to any sort of frontal attack.

i noticed that as well, but i think that might be to a misunderstanding on my part that all in that region fought in the underhand spear wall style, as depicted in such films as 300. Things like that is where the popular misconceptions arise anyway.

The OP is referring not to the concept of a phalanx but rather to the software feature of the video game known as phalanx formation. This feature isn't enabled on non-phalangite units, to answer the OP's question. EB only utilizes this switch for phalangite units.

That's what I was trying to say, but didn't explain it very well.
