As much as i love getting drunk and fighting and enjoying music about getting drunk and fighting, I have some really big issues with celebrating a holiday that is all about how some canonized fellow chased all non catholic people from his sodden isle.

So I just drink to the prosecuted pagans instead.

I didn't know the DUP had members in Chicago.

Nonsense on so many levels. For a start Patrick did not persecute the pagans, in fact it was the other way around (he was brought to Ireland as a slave after being captured by pagan pirates). Plus he wasn't even a Roman Catholic (I know, he wasn't a Prod either).

DUP love St. Paddy as well, they just think he was a Proddy. I'm guessing Postino is a Dawkins fan...
At the end of the day politics is just trash compared to the Gospel.

I wouldnt worry about it too much he wasnt even the first christian missionary to Ireland there is a fair amount of archaeological evidence and plenty circumstancial written/oral evidence for far earlier communities before Patrick arrived.

The benefits of christian belief were what ended paganism in Ireland things like the written word etc were eagerly snapped up and Hibernocised

Isn't DUP strongly protestant? Thats a no. Also no to Dawkins: Functionally I'd call myself atheist but I am not a fan of "rational though=no god". I enjoy hating on all of abrahams children.

You got me on the prosectuion thing though, and I'm not trying to bash Patric himself. It's more about the celebration of spreading any religion, and the fact that people will use any excuse to get drunk in public. I'm of Scot and German blood, I don't need any silly excuses.
