    the melody used is traditional Armenian. However the accordian, and keyboards are modern instruments. Play the same melody with say a duduk, and kanon (harp like instrument) then I would say its more traditional.

They would slap the palms of their hands against each other, and it is recorded that this was done in such a manner where the hands would start bleeding. In the video its performed by both male and female dancers, but originally its performed by men only)
