Vega is right. I loaded this replay and you brought 4 heavy cavalry. These were 3 Scythian Noble Cavalry and 1 Thracian Medium Cavalry. I understand I probably could have done a better job each month by insisting that new players in these tournaments read the rulesets carefully. Sorry. As for you Vega, did you notice the 4 heavy cavalry in the beginning? If you did, you could have at least told prankstr so that you could restart instead of playing it out =| sorry guys...

EDIT: First score report up a bit earlier than I anticipated. Kind of busy lately.

I was thinking about possibly changing the unit names to indicate heaviness but this is overkill. Keeping them the same for convenience of those looking up units on the unit list site.

I just notice this thread. If you guys are interested, you're welcome to use the Org's automated tournament utility to help run this thing. It has a lot of flexibility and can produce nice tournament brackets that look like this. If you're interested, just send me a PM and I'll get the proper people the access they need to be able to run the utility themselves, without needing to go through Org staff. I've also written a basic tutorial on how to use the utility, for both players and tournament hosts.

Hmmm, it would be interesting to do a bracket tournament since we actually have enough regulars. Thanks, Tin Cow. Can we do Round Robin as well?

Yes, that system allows both Round Robin and Double Round Robin. The only tournament option that I've found to be somewhat limited is Double Elimination. Double Elim is a great tournament system, but for some reason our utility cannot accept more than 8 players in that kind of a tournament, which is annoying.

Finally, haha. It's been a while since a battle took place it seems.

TinCow, thanks for noticing our tournaments. They've been going on a while since the tournament tool you mention was implemented. I might have inquired about it in the past, maybe not. But anyway, can that tool do what we are doing, which is not pairing particular players in any systematic way, but rather allowing them to play ad hoc and simply the game master (myself) entering in the information for each battle (players on each side and which side won)? Thanks.

I too have been distressed by the lack of battles this month Vartan. Every time I log on I feel like a mahout with the amount of goading I have to do in order to provoke the acceptance of a tourney challenge from various players.

Utterly unacceptable. Why don't you punish players by shooting them with arrows from your mahout tower? hehe.

Its tough to control an elephant and shoot arrows at the same time.

Once I get the new EDU out we can use that to give it a formal go. That is after proper testing is done.

That depends on what kind of a system you're trying to implement. Are you running this thing as an actual tournament, where people are eliminated until a single victor is chosen, or is it more of a general free-for-all, and at the end someone has more points? Our system can do both, but the latter is really more of a ladder than a tournament. I ran a TWS2 ladder using that system recently, and you can see the final results here. That system allowed players to pick their own battles (as opposed to a tournament, where matches are selected automatically), and the winner was simply the person who had the best record at the end.

I think a double elimination would be fun after all those free-for-all tournaments. Randomly drawn , it's sure to bring mixed emotions , especially concerning ones self matches , thus sparking a lot of testing friendlies.

Also , due to the double elimination , best out of 3 ( Bo3) system , everybody gets the chance to play in the tournament even if they get defeated in 1 series.

Ladder is how we run our system and we pretty much have to because we have over the limit of 8 for double elim and we can't always count on any two players being online at the same time. I'm glad to see your ladder actually implements an ELO rating system (I've been writing a program for it since I couldn't find one). Are ladders always time-based (1 year, 1 month, etc.) or can they be untimed? From the looks of it, I'm guessing the ladders section doesn't archive old ladders. Since it'll look ugly having a bunch of monthly ladders (), we're probably better off going "season" and shooting for 3-month intervals (or something of the sort). I'd like to see what the players think about it.

I don't think they can technically be totally untimed, but you can set the end date to be something like 2047, so it will never actually close. Plus, you can edit the start and end dates/times whenever you want, so you can use that to open or close the thing at will.

Kmoooon , i would love a head-to-head bashing with much on the line , and i'm sure many others will too. And you can actually do a double elimination with more or less than 8/16 players.
All you gotta do is do either qualifiers in case their number is greater , or automatic passes to the next run for a very small numer of lucky few , lottery chosen ofc

Very good ideas. In fact, what I always had in mind was taking the top n number of players for a certain summer season of battles (usually June+July+August) and creating a sort of "champions cup" tournament. The problem is the last time I tried this it was I believe in September, so it was just called the Fall champions cup. It never really came to fruition despite an (awful) video trailer being made to boot. I think timing was the problem. So considering the fact that if you graphed player availability throughout the year, you would see summer as the peak time, I figure the only (or one of the only?) ways you could implement this single/double-elim amongst the top performing players is if you make it start in, say, summer of 2012, and have the top players of the summer of 2011 compete. But I don't know if...there would be a realistic desire to participate in something like this after a year has gone by...I'm not certain. I'm not sure. What goes inside the mind of the player? *shrugs* Why you not compete in the fall??, I think to myself.

A good idea but a year in between would lead to the erosion of many of the skills which got those players into the Champion's Cup.
