    Default Kuvaszok

Has anyone here ever had any experience with a kuvasz? From what I hear, they are excellent guard dogs, but require a very experienced owner, and lots of time. Some sites where I have been reading up on them says that almost all of them will have some kind of health problems, due to inbreeding, since the breed was re-bred from so few dogs after the commies tried to wipe them them out. Is that true? Is it really likely that most of them will have defects and health problems? I find that hard to believe, but I have read it several places.

I don't know much about the breed, wiki says there were ~30 dogs (I'm assuming registered breedstock) left in Hungary after WWII. That's small, but not unworkable if the later breeders were careful with their lines. Siberian Huskies mostly come from 19 dogs shipped into Alaska in 1908 (before the Tsarists and commies wiped them out ), and they are one of the healthier breeds out there.
