Well that sucks. It's just Alien 4, or is it 5 now?

Alien 0. Since it's Ridley Scott directing, it should be a lot more like the first movie that the others.

If I remember correctly the cannon for the whole series is that the aliens take some of there structure/form from the host species therefore since we have only seen them infect mammals it folows the space jockey ones might be differ.
That's the way it has been portrayed in the existing movies. But in Alien, the space jockey was the host and the eggs/facehuggers were more organic looking. I'm thinking the ones in Prometheus are either the original (bioengineered by the space jockey race) or the jockeys got them from yet another infected race.

Thinking about a Frankenstein-esque plot, or some other angle?

Maybe, but there are lots of ways to spin the myth in the context of the movie.
    • Obvious, men are men, Prometheus (the ship) is Prometheus, the space jockeys are Zeus, the alien is either fire, or Pandora in retribution for something else being taken.
    • Men are men, Prometheus (the ship) is Prometheus, the space jockeys are Zeus, the alien is fire taken from the ancient civilizations. In the myth, man had fire before Zeus took it away.
    • Men are men, the alien is fire, the space jockeys are Prometheus and will have their livers eaten (or chests burst) for giving man the gift.
    • Men are men, the alien is Pandora, the space jockeys are Zeus, David is Prometheus, fire is whatever that globe-thingy is.
    • My favorite, men are Pandora, the space jockeys are men, the alien is Zeus.

This is being directed by the same guy that put out the latest Robin Hood, right? My hopes, they are not high.

You got a problem with bow-wielding medieval gladiators?

The guy's obviously talented... Alien, Blade Runner, Black Hawk Down. A lot of people hate Gladiator but I thought it was a great movie. It may have been fantasy but it told a very well crafted story. It seems, though, that after Black Hawk Down he lost that special ability really good directors have at putting story elements together in a compelling way. Kingdom of Heaven could have been great, even with Orlando Bloom, but it felt disjointed and crammed into what seemed like a 3 hour screening time. American Gangster, too, felt like Scott bit off more content than he could sew together. There were lots of good bits and pieces in both movies, but they did not flow together in a coherent fashion. Robin Hood was just a bag of crap. I simply fear that Scott, like so many directors before him that have grown fat and happy on previous successes, is on a downward trend.

Still, sucks. Years ago the two Mars movies weren't very interesting and this is yet another Hollywood recycle. I really hoped this could help inspire people and rekindle the interest in exploration and not just serve as mindless entertainment. Maybe the Prussian robot should have told me differently.

And that's why I have less than zero interest in. Alien is a crappy slasher movie that I can't even sit through.

It has been copied too many times but it's a true classic. What I like about it is that they are just truckers in space, they behave like real humans. It scared the crap out of me when I was 12. Mommy warned me but I didn't listen

I liked Alien because it wasn't a slasher movie. More mystery and tension.

It came out 2 years before I was born. And by the time I could seek it out on my own it was horribly dated.

No it very much is. It follows all the slasher movie tropes to a tee.

By the time you saw it it had been cloned countless times. It's like calling Carpenter's Halloween unoriginal

Since the plot structure of Alien is incredibly derivative your right. BUT by the time I was say 15 I'd seen 15 films, maybe 5 in a theatre. And not a single one was a horror movie of any stretch. So the first time I would have seen the basic plot of a slasher movie would have been in a TV show episode.

And don't get me started on Carpenter. He deserves nothing but scorn for the Thing remake.

I dont find that at all to be honest in fact I dont see anything in it that we would say looks old fashioned or dated.

Actually it follows a whole range of tropes not just slasher movie style but that doesnt mean that it's bad because it follows them.

Unless of course you HATE that type of movie. Because it insults your intelligence.
