Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

By the time you saw it it had been cloned countless times. It's like calling Carpenter's Halloween unoriginal
Since the plot structure of Alien is incredibly derivative your right. BUT by the time I was say 15 I'd seen 15 films, maybe 5 in a theatre. And not a single one was a horror movie of any stretch. So the first time I would have seen the basic plot of a slasher movie would have been in a TV show episode.
And don't get me started on Carpenter. He deserves nothing but scorn for the Thing remake.

It's a prequel it it isn't half-bad, nowhere as good as the first of course but suitably disgusting. Total lack of tension though
Gah. Forgot that Carpenter's The Thing actually IS a remake

I dont find that at all to be honest in fact I dont see anything in it that we would say looks old fashioned or dated.
Actually it follows a whole range of tropes not just slasher movie style but that doesnt mean that it's bad because it follows them.No it very much is. It follows all the slasher movie tropes to a tee.

Sorta kinda not really. Both "The Thing" films are based on the novella Who Goes There? The 1950s version of The Thing is radically simplified, since they did not have the technology to show a shape-absorbing alien at a reasonable cost. John Carpenter's film was able to stick much more closely to the original novella, and benefits from it.

I wont dispute that but I think if you go in expecting a sci-fi of epic proportions and not an epic sc-fi you can prepare yourself to be pleasantly surprised. One thing is for certain, the cost of promotion for this film alone must be a lot. Even if it does suck I can't see it flopping at the box office.

Saw Huntsman Saturday. Charlize did pretty good but no one was that great. Looking forward to this fairy tale too. Not sure what to think about Mad Max 4.

Man, just look at the quality of the effects!
Anybody else see it yesterday? I personally loved it. The suspense was killing me the whole movie, and I thought that the music was particularly well done. Well worth the cost of 3D in my opinion
I liked the film visually but I found myself thinking that I personally would never collect such a team for myself! I mean.. why do they have to rush everywhere? Why do they have to touch everything? They flew 3 years and couldn't wait the next day? I mean, few days gathering information and stuff? I think I would get some grey hairs if I would be a leader of a group like that.
Saw it today, 3D IMAX. Pretty good, but there were a few plot holes that bugged me. Fassbender was superb though, and the acting overall was quality.
First time watching a 3D flick since the old red/blue glasses days. Prometheus doesn't mess with the usual 3D gimmicks, it's not necessary for the movie, but I thought Scott used it well with the shipboard computer display effects. I'd like to see it in 2D though, the 3D tends to hide stuff out of focus. The theatre had a 3D preview of Spiderman, looked terrible cinematically, very choppy.

Ja Mata, Tosa.
The poorest man may in his cottage bid defiance to all the forces of the Crown. It may be frail; its roof may shake; the wind may blow through it; the storm may enter; the rain may enter; but the King of England cannot enter – all his force dares not cross the threshold of the ruined tenement! - William Pitt the Elder
Is this an actual Alien prequel?
