Also John Carpenter's "The Thing" is a good example of a movie thats better than it's original book and also where a remake outstrips the original movie.Sorta kinda not really. Both "The Thing" films are based on the novella Who Goes There? The 1950s version of The Thing is radically simplified, since they did not have the technology to show a shape-absorbing alien at a reasonable cost. John Carpenter's film was able to stick much more closely to the original novella, and benefits from it.
