Question Max TroopNum in Historical Battles

I am making a historical battle just for fun, but I have a question. What is the max unit size (TroopNum in the adf files) for the various unit types (cavalry, spears, archers, and so forth)? Specifically, I am dealing with chivalric knights, billmen, and archers. I need to increase the unit numbers to more reflect the armies' sizes against each other. I have the ratio to what each army should be in relation to each other, but I am finding I am needing to increase the numbers of some units to meet that. For that matter what is the largest an army can be? I really do not want to crash the game on loading the battle if I can avoid it. I would like to get it right the first time.

Some of the mods seem to double troop size but, I'm not sure if that is (or if there is) a maximum. I assumed it had more to do with what computers can handle easily.

My real question is (as I don't remember ever reading anything with anything but really broad guesses), what are the historical sizes? From what I can gather, it seems numbers may actually be inflated in the game.

Well, in this case 10000 and 5000 were the figures for the real battle. I have reduced this down to 2000 and 1000 to make it manageable without reinforcements. Even then that means some large unit sizes in the armies. I am going to give it a try tomorrow morning now I think everything is set.

I've never tried it, but I would imagine 255 is the most a unit can have. This would give you a little over 4000 troops per side. Playing the campaign on "Huge" unit settings allows for 200 (spearmen units) men per. 255 would be the logical cutoff from a computer nerd standpoint.

Well, I tested the battle this morning and it worked. The largest unit which were billmen I had was only 200 men though. I may have to have a larger unit though as I may be changing one of the general's unit and compensating with the smaller unit by making one of the others bigger. That and when I work out the victory conditions should mean I am finished with it.
