    The easiest solution to your problem is to get the Steam version, which has the added benefit of working on Win 10 as well. It's not on sale now ($10 US atm), but it does happen on occasion. If you want to do it the hard way, you can try the button fix, the various DirectX tweaks, the DirectDraw patch, and the other assorted cantrips listed in the Main Hall stickies. Good luck!
