    Default Questions on Spies

I've noticed that, no matter how advanced a spy is, certain cities are nearly impossible to infiltrate. My question is this: what is the difference between City A having a 93% chance of infiltration, while City B has only 11%? Are there certain structures or troops in the city that affect this?

Also, as more of a side note than a question, I've noticed that a few of my spies get expelled from cities nearly every turn. To me, if they were found by the enemy, it would make more sense to have them immediately put to death, and not just thrown out of the city. Any ideas as to why this is part of the game?

The infiltration chance is determined by adding up the total number of Subterfuge points of spies and assassins in the city, and comparing them to the number of Subterfuge points the infiltrating spy has, plus that of any spies you may already have gotten in there.

The reason you see spies "kicked out" is that there is both a chance for spies to be discovered, but escape the city safely, and a chance they are discovered and caught, then executed by the enemy. HTH.

As far as chances an enemy spy in a city greatly reduces your chances of him getting in, asassination will greatly increase your chances.

As far as spies being killed, I guess it's just a game balance issue. If every spy you had that was found got killed, none would last too long. So for balance issiues they can only die of old age, failed mission or by the hands of an asassin.

The asassin is different and has a chance of living after a failed mission, then again how many asassins die of old age

Since we're on the topic, may I also ask a spy question? How do you get rid of unneeded spies? As Julii, I have a bunch remaining from when I was fighting off infiltration by the gauls, but now that I've wiped out the gauls I don't need so many. I don't see any "disband" option for them.

There is no option to disband spies, assassins or diplomats. I get rid of them by putting them on a single bireme and heading for the nearest hostile navy. That's the only sure way I've found.

I would never have though of that, I usually let them die of old age. Excellent tactic!
