So based on these wonderful previews, how do you feel about the upcoming release of Europa Barbarorum:

10: Awaiting your first born child. "Honey, my water broke!"

9: Celebrity Status: "Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod!!!"

8: The night before Christmas (and you are a hyperactive ten year old). Similar and equivalent feeling if you are of a differnt denomination of course.

7: The desire for your first kiss with that one really cute girl...

6: You're hungry and you know a good hot meal is about to hit the table.

5: An hour before work (or school) let's out. "Why is the clock moving so slooow? I want to get outta here!"

4: You have been running in a marathon and you still have three miles to go. Each... step... is... like... a... lifetiiiiiiiiiiiime...

3: You have been waiting in line at the DMV for an eternity and are only halfway there. Of course, who wants to be at the DMV anyway?

2: That angry rumbling in your stomach after you ate spicy food the night before and the poop is coming whether you like it or not.

1: What is that you say? Europa Barbarorum? Gah. Let us never speak of this again.

    Cheers and reagrds,

I chose 6 because this ends up being the avergae. I generally feel like a 4 until I see that a new preview has arrived, then I open it and feel a 10 everytime without fail.

Yes Yes I know SFTS. You like RTR. But that is not the point of this thread my friend.

RTR is enjoyable and was made better with the CC Music Mod.. (And on that I cannot underestimate the absolutley critical value of new music and sounds! I wonder if there is enough historical research available to duplicate music from various cultures in the time frame?)

Anyway, this thread is not about comparisons. It is about the communities anticipation for this great Mod! Remember that many are dual memebrs!

As I was building the compilation of previous previews for this thread, it dawned on me just how much has been done thus far. And it really is a true work of art. An amazing amount of manhours has been dedicated to this. Pure slavery on the part of some...

Well it does not go unnoticed. I would pay if EB were sold, but I know that has been discussed. It is your pure drive as volunteers that makes this even better.

WolfTrapper78, Welcome to the ORG, my friend!

I too, was drawn into the Org by EB a long time ago... coming on a year here pretty soon. It has been a long wait, but soon we will all be drunk with the great pleasure that is EB!

Thank you for posting. I hope you enjoy your stay and we all look forward to your comments in the future!

Incidentally I chose, I chose option: "1: What is that you say? Europa Barbarorum? Gah. Let us never speak of this again.".

Why, you might ask?? -the reason is quite simple, EB is an obsolete mod that adds minimally to gameplay and does very little that excites me, and most important of all because I have seen the future and it is not EB.

What you might ask at this point am I hinting at?? -simply that, that I intend to wait for EB1.2- BI. The yet to be announced way back into the future EB Mod that will be based on the BI engine, a mod that will combine religion, loyalty, barabrian migrations, recruitable generals, civil wars, rebellions, night battles, troops that can swim and best of all even if the no. of Factions remain hardcoded, 3 new faction slots- "Mauryans"(sotto voice)any one or maybe even BARTIX and all this along with the sheer genius that the EB developers have demonstrated so far .

So as you may very well perceive compared to the EB1.2- BI mod, the EB mod simply pales by comparision .
In the three years of war, necessity gave birth to invention. During those three years, we built bombs, we built rockets, we designed and built our own delivery systems. For three years, blockaded without hope of imports, we maintained engines, machines, and technical equipment. We spoke to the world through a telecommunications system engineered by local ingenuity. In three years of freedom, we had broken the technological barrier. In three years, we became the most civilized, the most technologically advanced black people on earth."

Research? Yes, lots. Results? Not many, I'm afraid. You know, ancient cultures had not a music notation system. And since -kinda obvious- there were no recordings, all our sources limit to:

    1) Instruments. We have depictions, descriptions. Sometimes even the instruments themselves. So we know how they sounded. But we don't know WHAT they played with them. War horns, etc, are an easy matter. But the precise music made with ensembles of complex instruments -flutes, auloi, harps, lyres, psalters, kytharoi, etc- or voice, is mostly a mystery to us.

    2) Folklore and traditions. We may know a little about ancient music thru the musical baggage of relatively isolated cultures with ancient traditions. Unfortunately, much of this body is sure to have been transformed, influenced or created in relatively recent times, and there's no way to know what and how much. There may be remains of Celtic music typical uses in modern western folk, but we'll never know what part of it is the purest. Western world music has a varied influence of Greek, Hebrew, Egyptian, Celtic and other ancient cultures, but is a confusing matter.

    3) Theoretical music treaties of the ancient. There are a lot of ancient Greek treaties about music. So we know how Greek music worked, the rules it used, the occasions where it was used, etc. Ancient Greek music is the only one we can recreate to a certain extent. But, except for some scattered fragments of Hellenistic tunes written down in a primitive notation system, we don't have any music itself.

So, all we can do is resort to analogy. We have the Greek fragments and music theory, and the traditional music of several cultures around the world, but, to be sincere, all that a modern researcher can do is some kind of reasonable guess, and, hence, a well-based fake.

    That is a shame, but...

I am of the opinion that music is absolutely critical in creating a depth of experience to any form of multimedia experience. In TW, this is absolutley the truth. All too often though, the full compliment of music gets side lined for those things that are viewed as more pressing.

Further complicating this is the lack of musicians available and willing to work free of charge on a Mod. So a lack of new music is more forgiveable on a mod then on an original release.

Given these complications, and Khelvan's response that music is planned, are you so far pleased with the changes to the score and sounds that are planned? What are the plans for the music: all new, movie tracks, or some combinations of the above?

a good experiment would be to allow a young child to play this mod, and then see how much they learn from it.

ive personally got this theory that video games and simulators will be used to educate kids in things like history and engineering.
tricking kids into learning by making them have fun and giving them solid objectives.

so yeah, thats personally what im looking forwards to.
