Well, they still have disproportionately sized weapons and hands etc. That's kind of a house style.

If you want to see "realistic" figures, look at their Lord of the Rings range - they are very nice.

But have a look at the three Elf ranges (High, Dark and Wood) and you'll see Warhammer Fantasy has some pretty nice looking models. For example, I think these are awful purty (shame they are too useless to warrant me buying for my army):

I just had a look to the Wood Elves figures, and yeah, they have quite improved. Too bad there's no Ariel special character anymore.

Edit : Huh, I don't like the Ogre Kingdom. When will they make an middle eastern looking army ?

It's a perennial question. No time soon, I guess. What I have heard is that they don't want to do something that is too obviously a copy of Samaurai or Chinese military history; nor something that plays like the Renaissance style Empire army. I don't understand this - from a commercial point of view, I would imagine an Eastern style army would sell like hot potatoes. But they want something distinctive, like the Ogre Kingdoms. Shame OK is as ugly as hell.

Hmmm, you wouldn't happen to know why they split the Undead and Chaos armies into Tomb Kings/Vampire Counts and Beasts/Hordes of Chaos respectively? That probably trashes my Chaos army, I used daemons, warriors, and beastmen combined.

I guess most of the new models look fine. Chaos seems a little bland (but again I'm biased here ). It's nice to know they offer the basic troops in plastic packs, not only are they cheaper, but you can usually create a variety of poses with the plastic models. I probably would have never gotten started in 40K if it wasn't for the old plastic Mark VI armor space marine 10-pack. No way I could have afforded lead back then.

I think the Chaos Dwarves circa 1995 were supposed to be middle eastern, but the less said of them the better. They were terrible models. The Tomb Kings have an Egyptian look to them, very much like the second level of Diablo II.

I was rather thinking about an Haradrim looking like army. If I remember the background of Warhammer Fantasy precisely, there are some kind of Arabian kingdoms south ou Bretonnia (near Nagash's lands), where Bretonnians use to crusade...

No, you should be still ok. There are three types of Chaos troop - beasts, mortals and daemons but you can mix them up fairly flexibly. (If you have a mortal general, non-mortals count as special choices or some such).

Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts are different armies - think the Mummy vs Dracula.

    Chaos seems a little bland
Well, as a High Elf player, I despise Chaos but I do like the Chaos mortals mini range. How can you not like:

And getting more expensive all the time. The Lord of the Rings game is not too pricey, but it's a skirmish kind of affair. I suspect Total War players would feel more at home with the ranked combat of Warhammer Fantasy. There, you are probably looking at £300 for a decent army. And many weekends painting.

I bet a RTW player would rather be playing Warhammer Ancient Battles, with a Ancient era book.

Since I'm kinda in a W40K frenzy right now, I bought W40K dawn of war. And well, it kicks ass. I'm not sure it will not get boring later, but I'm having lot of fun hammering orks with these awesome looking eldars (though I think they looked better in the previous edition).
I'm going to try out some mod such as the one with the women space marines (witch hunters or somthing like that)

Glory to the Dark Gods! Skulls for the skull throne!!

..err..Sorry... sometimes i get too caught up in A Blood rage of Khorne.. I've got a World Eaters army, mostly of Berserkers, daemons, and even Karn the betrayer who i throw in every now and then when i can . Used to play as a Space marine, and still have a small army of Ultramarines (who i set up and pose every now and then with my chaos guys) but "fighting for the Emperor" got old after a while. So i submitted to the Dark whims of the Blood God , and have been working to bring destruction to the vile Imperium of man ever since.

Or..As Karn says in battle... "Kill! Maim! Burn! Kill! Maim! Burn! Kill! Maim! Burn! Kill! Maim! Burn! Kill! Maim! Burn!"

    ahh...music to my ears

I played my first game of 40k for years today, and I reallly enjoyed it. I should find other people to play against.

To play 40k in Aus it works out at about a dollar a point once you add in paints and brushes. And this if for space marines, they are one of the cheaper sets to buy... it doesn't include special characters... they are the cheapest to buy per point.
Our genes maybe in the basement but it does not stop us chosing our point of view from the top.

I don't really want to think about the amount of money I sunk into WFB and 40K figures... After a while I had such a backlog of unpainted models I had to impose a moratorium, I had to paint 2 figures before I could buy 1. Kept me from getting into Wood Elves towards the end, which was probably for the better.

They look angry and burly enough, but they lack the little mutations and details that the old models had. Granted, these are plastic and would be easier on the wallet. I'll have to take my camera and post pics of some of my old troops. GAH! The horde will be freed from it's plastic and foam prison, to see the light of day again....

I have enough orks to drown in (loads and loads and loads of grots) and a blood bowl team somewhere, although it got too expensive for me to keep up with so i'v not bought anything for a year or so....
