    How to Train Your Dragon

Ok, as a rule I NEVER call anything cute, but I gotta say, Toothless was adorable! Yeah, I know, I sound like a thirteen year old girl. Seriously though, this movie was one of the most interesting, engaging, visually spectacular films I have ever seen. The characters were completely lovable, the story was great, and the animation is the best I have ever seen.

You haven't seen that many animations than, I take it. BUT I agree, 'How to train your dragon' is a very enjoyable, well made movie

i have to take Vuk's side here, I don't think I've seen better true animation. yeah stuff like Beowulf, but thats motion-capture into animation, not from scratch.

They are able to capture emotions in their animations like I have never seen anyone do. The way for instance that they convey all the emotions and thoughts of the scene where Stoic is 'talking' to Hiccup about his success in the ring. Just the body language of Stoic leaning in and the movements and expressions that Hiccup makes. It is all very subtle, but it goes a very long way toward making it seem realistic, and I have honestly never seen better. (Certainly never from anything like Shrek or Toy Story (not that the TS animation was bad))

EDIT: And then of course Toothless, the way that they animated him was so fantastic.

I did agree that the animation was (extremely) well made. Watching toothless was great fun and you could clearly identify catlike and doglike behavior. Little things that made the dragon believable as a real animal.
In my post , I was more alluding to the story which is still the same underdog story we know so well from all those 80's movies. Nevertheless it was a movie I really enjoyed watching.

The Green Zone, not what I expected. It's not really a war-movie, it's a popcorn action flick set in Iraq. The action sequences are incredible I'll give them that. Matt Damon is forgettable. Not so forgettable is the guy playing the psycho commando, he gets little airtime but makes quite the impression, scary guy

Black Swan: Meh! Natalie Portman was insanely good but the movie itself... whatever. The Woman wanted to see it, so we saw it.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Mulholland Drive with ballet. And Mullholland Drive was much better.

Pi: By the same director as Black Swan. Rented this one. Great movie. Claustrophobic, discomforting, atmospheric, twisted, thoughtful. A movie to watch alone without distraction. Let it absorb you.

Requim for a Dream: Same director. Haven't seen it in a year or two. Fantastic movie! Depressing, distressing, and very twisted. Absolutely Five-Star!

I'm just watching Heat on RTE 2 on the telly right now

You know this movie had absolutely no need for Val Kilmer or Ashley Judd at all, unnecessary additions to the movie plotwise. Still a fairly good movie though.

Watching Donnie Yen, and old favorite, in Ip Man on Hulu. Good so far. The drama is as entertaining as the MA.

Edit: Hmm ... the ending summary rubbed me a bit wrong. Final verdict: good, not great. Probably why it ended up on Hulu, though I must say it's one of the best films I've seen on Hulu in some time.

True Grit. A quality remake. Despite not being able to understand a word Jeff Bridges said I highly recommend this film!

What rubbed you the wrong way?
Was it Ip Man or Ip Man 2 that you saw? I must say that I did not like IM 2, but IM was probably one of, if not my favorite movie.

I think it's the first movie; it was titled "Ip Man." Some of the printed summary at the end of the movie seemed like skewed propaganda to me. The movie itself was good. Apparently others who viewed the movie on Hulu felt the same way, based on the comments left, "good movie but the ending made me angry" etc.. It didn't make me angry, but I did wrinkle brow a bit.

    Mouzaf,

    Great to see you again.

I got From Here to Eternity for Christmas a few years ago. Came in a three-pack of war movies along with Bridge Over the River Kwai and something else. Can't remember. Might fire up From Here... today. Only seen it once, years ago.

Im surprised this movie got such low reviews. I for one thought it was really good. Great action, good plot (though I wish it went more into her transformation from CIA agent to Russian sleeper agent- it seemed to happen kinda suddenly) and overall really enjoyable.

Far and away. Movie is ok. But gawd Nicole Kidman. I am glad she's getting older because I wouldn't be able to come to terms with such a creature walking on the same planet I do, and would probably end up in jail. Don't even think about pointing out that her romance with Tom Cruise started there as that could still get me in jail. Soooooooooooooooooooo pretty, it's simply unbearable looking at her

Megamind: I did not have high hopes for this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a hilarious, and awesome movie. This will probably be the only time you hear me dish out praise for Ferrel or Fey, but they both did an outstanding job and had very lovable characters. It was full of great humor, nice visuals, and did a really good job of conveying serious emotion in a funny way.

Finished the second season of The Killing (Danish series), like the first it's incredibly slick. Every scene feels meaningful, that quite the feat to pull of for 10 hours straight. Not a dull moment, awesome stuff.
