I've found that most common makes work with Windows 98 but you will have to download drivers for this OS - they won't be recognised without drivers.
For Win XP and Mac OSX, flash drives are pretty much plug and play.

Yup. They have Win 98 on all of the comps in the library - tried it, didn't work. Will have to download drivers, just like you said. Thx again, guys.

Win98 does not have embedded USB drivers while Windows XP and its SP1 version only support USB 1.1 .
Or in the case of my computer throw a fit and complain if I plug any USB device in. That's a power supply issue though I think...
USB's only came out a couple years after Win 98, otherwise toss the Floppies and 3.5'sOriginally Posted by LeftEyeNine

If I'm not mistaken, Win98 (maybe SP2 only?) did support USB, but you needed drivers for the devices you plugged in. XP has that stuff built in, it can do the basics with flashsticks and cameras with no extra software needed.

You can get certain brands of USB keys that when plugged in, create a virtual floppy drive as well as the normal storage space, and on that virtual floppy drive they put the win98 drivers. So that means you dont have to DL anything from the net to get them to work, just point the OS to the virtual floppy floppy drive. Nice and easy. :)
