Ive never really had any experience with one, and I have both RTW and BI - plus latest patches. I've looked in the Mod forums, but Im not really sure which is the best one. Any ideas?
Which is the most compatible or best Mod around?![]()

EB and RTR are fine mods which everyone should try. I haven't tried any others as my last year at uni has seen my time taken.
Do you want a mod for RTW or BI?
What version are you using?

I'd like one for RTW. Im using v1.5.
BI is patched to v1.6
For RTW 1.5

The latest version of this mod which provides different campaigns for each of the three men who led Rome during the First Triumvirate: Caesar, Pompey & Crassus

Darth Vader's ever-evolving mod focused on improving gameplay. DarthFormations 12.0 is also available as a separate download.
Terrae Expugnandae 4.0
The latest version of Lusted's mod

SPQR 6.0
lt1956's ongoing mod to improve RTW's gameplay - see here for a full list of changes and features
![]()
Domination V3 mod
A combination of mods and other adjustments to produce a more battle-orientated campaign
Rome: Total Gameplay mod
Improved battles, new units and expanded tech trees
Great Empires v2.7b
The latest version of Torgill’s Great Empire mod
Edit:
Extended Greek Mod 3.5.1
The latest version of DimeBagHo’s opus focusing on adding greater depth and colour to the Greek factions. BI-XGM allows XGM to be run through the BI executable.

Rome: Total Realism is what I use.![]()
ER you forgot Extended Greek Mod for RTW
Thank you, Epistolary, Alexander, Blind King.
RTR and SPQR 6.0 look the most promising. I might try Terrae Expugnandae first, though.
I take it I need to uninstall BI first?
That Terrae Expugnandae looks good. I'm going to download that sometime this week.
No, RTW 1.5 and BI 1.6 run in parallel with each other, you can have a mod installed for 1.5 and a separate vanilla version of BI 1.6 (or even a modded 1.6).Originally Posted by Garvanko
BTW, use the JSGME mod enabler programme (link in sig) - easy way of swapping between various mods and vanilla.
Good catch - editedOriginally Posted by kburkert

Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.
A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?
EB is definitely going to be the best (at least in my opinion) mod when it's completed. However, if you like story/RPG campaigns I think there's the first triumverate RTR mod.
Student by day, bacon-eating narwhal by night (specifically midnight)
BI didn't work for me. But I have got RTW 1.5 installed. It works for that, yeah?
I copied the RTW file and I have a mod installed on the copy (from a while ago). Can I just delete the copy and install this mod on my vanilla 1.5? Or do I have to uninstall it all?![]()
RTG is great. Id like to try SPQR and RTR though. (got dial-up take too long)
The ZIP file is over 40MB!Originally Posted by The Spartan
How long did it take you to download the mod with 56k The Spartan? Those 50-ish unit sprites that were created the other day are just under 30MB uncompressed btw. Mind you, I could take out the original TGAs to cut the filesize as the TGAs have now been converted to DDS.
I've never downloaded another mod myself. The one I'd like to try one day, be it in beta or full version, would be EB. Haven't really checked out every single mod available in any great depth (there's so many to choose from, which is not necessarily a bad thing).
The problem is I tend to switch between games very frequently. Not too long ago I was into Half-Life 2 & Counter Strike: Source (not for the first time, mind). Now I've installed MTW & VI for the first time and have really got into a Polish campaign. I'm also contemplating re-installing the original Unreal again so I can hunt some Skaarj

Currently developing Rome: Total Gameplay (RTG), an unofficial mod for vanilla Rome: Total War v1.5
Features: improved battles, new units to recruit, more buildings to construct, a modified campaign map, and much more!
RTG Main Topic, Click here to download RTG v1.0
heheheh...2hr. 30 min. if it was 200mb then say 9 to 10 hours... (hate dial-up!!)Originally Posted by Seasoned Alcoholic
Yeah, as long a you have v1.5, it should work. Install on the vanilla 1.5.Originally Posted by Craterus
My favourite mods for RTW 1.5 are Expansion mod (totalwarcentre.com), extended greek mod (XGM), Terrae Expugnundae 4.0, and RTR or Rome Total Realism. All bug free for heaps of hours I've been playing them too.
All easy to install as well!
Have fun !

Gotta patch question...
If I am running BI do I have to patch RTW to 1.5, AND BI to 1.6. Or does the BI 1.6 patch cover both?
TFT v1.9 is out now:Originally Posted by Epistolary Richard

One benefit of using TFT is that no vanilla files are overwritten, so you can try the mod and still play regular RTW with no messy file switchers or having to reinstall and such.
BI v1.6 should include RTW v1.5... but I've heard there are problems if you are using RTW Gold. To be sure, go to the options screen from the RTW menu and the version is displayed in the upper right.Originally Posted by tadswana

Like the look of Terrae Expugnandae 4.0, downloading it now.![]()
TE 4 was a bit buggy for me - especially the end turn CTD. Have decided to now try the Extended Greek Mod.
What CTD is this, Garvanko?
Well it happened to me around 240 BC. Whenever I tried to end the turn, it would CTD. I tried it about ten times - couldn't continue my Greek campaign.
The Mod is great, but the CTD's occur far too frequently.
You should try the Extended Greek Mod, Craterus. Its excellent.
Does anyone know whether the Darthmod Formations would work with XGM?
