    Post The senate hates me

In my game as the Scipii, I have done every single senate mission they have asked me to do. I blockaded ports, took settlements, etc. My senate approval rating was as high as it could get, but all of a sudden it dropped to just half of that! I got a message saying the senate was displeased with me the next turn. Does anyone have any ideas what happened?

Too much success makes them really nervous.

The are a paranoid bunch of old doddering fools who just know you aim to set yourself up as Imperator!

Just, um, pasture them. Yeah, the rustic life!

Just like vonsch said, they're getting wary of your growing power. The Civil War may be coming soon. Try to build/transport an army to Italy soon.

Keep one fullstack next to both Brutii holdings in Italy. You can wait, or you can provoke war by simply attacking them. If you can't do that, send some green assassins to suicide on the Senate faction leader/heir, to provoke civil war.

Well on my Brutii campaign i have seen the scipii in huge disfavour with the senate even though they own the whole of africa!
Well also keep a eye on the other roman factions and do what Tiberius has suggested if you are ready for total war with the other roman factions.

If you've declared war on an allied faction of the other Roman factions. Other than that, I think the others are right when they say your power is growing too much.

Ship some forces over to Italy. The civil war is about to begin. Build your forces up in your settlement on mainland Italy. Attack the Brutii first to secure the south portion of Italy. Then move to the Senate. They will only have one stack of forces, but they are all good troops.

    Good luck.

The civil war finally started. I took the 2 brutii cities without much trouble, but the senate is a little bit tougher. They have 2 fullstacks plus the garrison in Rome. I lost about 40% of my force when i attacked the brutii, and I can't train new troops fast enough since I'm also at war with the Egyptians and Thrace, who has become a powerhouse civilization.

Try to ceasefire with Egypt and Thrace. A temporary peace will by you time so you can transport some of your troops to Italy. Just train a few archer units to act as garrison in the cities that you pull your troops out of.

How well protected are the Julii cities? You might want to take those and secure Northern Italy before marching on Rome again.

Ok, I got a ceasefire with Thrace, but Egypt kept denying my requests. The Julii have spread out and have taken over all of the Iberian Peninsula and Gaul. I think I'll leave them alone until after I destroy the senate. I built alot of assassins and they have begun working on the numerous family members in the Senate armies.

Don't take rome just yet as if you do then thats it you have to get 50 settlements and the games up. Or thats what happened to me.

    The senate loves me.

You can play on after achieving the Imperial campaign victory conditions.

My senate rating was high but after 40 settlements under control it went down fast. At a rating of 2 there was a suicide request, which for the safety of Brutii empire, I accepted. I was weak in Italy. In his will the faction leader instructed his heir to use the time wisely and build a force to battle Rome because for sure another suicide demand will be made. Sure enough a few turns later another demand was made and refusing it triggerred civil war. Took three turns from that point to control all the Italian mainland.

Had I wanted to initiate the war with Rome I would have used assasins against its leaders. Failure of a mission can trigger SPQR declaring you an outlaw and triggering civil war.

I usually get outlawed really quickly. I don't listen to anything the Senate tells me. It's actually a good thing.

I foolow the Senate in order to get as many offices and teh bonuses they provide. Once they start hating you though, it time to finish up the game. If you set it up right and hem in your allies you can crush the 2 Julii territories, 2 Scipii territories, and Rome in a matter of turns and fight the war in Egypt at the same time, finishing in style with tow massive campaigns at once. The war against Egypt and the Civil war at teh same time. Now that's style.
