Thread: Mod for MTW

    Default Mod for MTW

Hi, I'm pretty new with M:TW VI, only played one campaign on medium with the English, conquering the whole map by 1310. Now playing on hard with the Byzantines with new problems either.

I just like to know what mods would people recommend for VI that helps the whole gaming experience?

I've had a lot of fun playing Hellenic Total War, set in ancient Greece and am now playing the XL mod (an expanded version of MTW), which seems a fair bit harder than vanilla MTW, perhaps because the extra factions and provinces allow for more and larger armies. I would recommend either or both though if you're only on your second game there is plenty still to experience in the vanilla game.

There are other well-regarded mods but I haven't played them yet so I'll leave others to comment on them.

I would recommend the XL mod as it makes Medieval Go to another level!

You might try Pike and Musket TW 1.5, but you might fnd it too difficult when playing with small factions. Still it is a great fun.

I second cdeford's assessments of the XL Mod and Hellenic TW Mod. I didn't play Hellenic as much (mostly because it's not my favorite era), but it's an excellent "total conversion" mod.

If you're looking to just expand on the medieval period itself, then XL is a very good one to go with. It adds a number of factions & units, improves the strategic AI (it's now better at building stuff and training good troops), and has a lot of tweaks to rebalance the game. BKB's Super Mod is also very popular, as is Wes' MedMod. I haven't played either of them myself, but both are very well-regarded and respected by the members.

If you ask any MTW player here what they consider the 3 major (medieval) mods to be, most of them will probably say BKB, MedMod, and XL. I don't think you can go wrong with picking any one of those three, as they're all widely considered to greatly improve and extend MTW's gameplay. Those aren't the only mods available, though; there are others definitely worth checking out as well!
