Gah! is the Org-standard last option of a poll. As in, "Gah! None of these poll options accurately reflect my opinion!"

Star Trek had a worryingly large effect on real life, but besides the first series is mostly rubbish.

Some of the worst acting I've ever seen has been in Star Trek.

Star Wars acting was wooden too, but at least it had lightsabres and coolness.

    Star Wars.

Lightsabers are the best thing since sliced bread, so obviously star wars therefore wins.

This must be the geekiest poll here in the .org ever. In fact, I'd bet it's the geekiest thread here ever!

Anyway, when it's a contest between Trek and Wars, there can be only one answer from a truly sane and mentally balanced orgah:

RTW, 167 BC: Rome expels Greek philosophers after the Lex Fannia law is passed. This bans the effete and nasty Greek practice of 'philosophy' in favour of more manly, properly Roman pursuits that don't involve quite so much thinking.

    Star Trek, of course.
It was not theirs to reason why,

Star trek, I disliked the original series (and the first bits of DS9 but things picked up when the Dominion came along) but loved the rest.

On another note I am also keen on Star Wars but I just preferred Star trek.

Star Trek, without doubt. It actually has storylines and characterisation.

I think Harrison Ford said it all:

"You can write this **** George, but you sure as hell can't say it."

Star Trek! Star Trek started it all when it comes to sci-fi - The transporter, phaser weapon, warp speed. Gene Roddenberry broke every mold - Women Officers (during the civil rights movement), a Russian Navigator (during the cold war), the coolest emotionless alian of all time (Spock).

But I do have to admit, light sabers are cool.
This is my Signature. Just imagine it being a mind blowing axiom.

Wrong... the origional Star Trek is for stoners. The rest, yeah- the other series are the dumbest thing I could ever come up with. Kinda like "Time Tunnel: the next Generation." But the first one is hilarious whilst baked.

But they both lose out to "Space: Above and Beyond", one of the toughest grittiest series ever shown on Cable television. It was really, good, too; yet it only lasted one season. Really a terrible waste of a very good series. Apparently, the lack of stupid, nerdy aliens and even worse, nerdier storylines (*cough* Babylon 5 *cough*) led to its downfall.

    Star Wars - no questions.

Star Trek's about a bunch of hippies. "Oh, let's go around not shooting stuff, or something. Anyway, our weapons suck."

I am a big fan of both but I choose Star Wars because it includes tech and fantasy.

Star Wars is RTW to Star Trek's MTW.

Stars Wars has great looks and special effects, but is a little light and ultimately unsatisfying. Only the Empire Strikes Back and the last one have any real gravitas and drama, IMO. The rest is just ultimately trite Flash Gordon, Saturday matinee stuff.

Star Trek is a bit clunky and uncool, but has a lot of hidden depth, excellent characters and solid plots. There have been some amazing one-off episodes - City on the Edge of Forever (ToS) and An Inner Light (TNG) come to mind. Plus DS9 had a very impressive central story arc in the last few series.

But ultimately both lose out to Babylon 5 whose 5 year story arc was about the most satisfying thing I've watched on TV.

And the new Battlestar Galactica is shaping up to rival all of them for atmosphere and adult drama.
